The State of West Virginia is pushing all Emergency Services to go to
the Motorola P25 Digital Radio System for everyday use - for all calls, etc.
WSAZ is Charleston, WV yesterday published an investigative report on
the good and the bad of using the digital system.
http://www.wsaz.com/news/headlines/24311924.html
Apparently it is only supposed to be used for Level 3, 4, 5 Federal
Disasters... and not for the everyday auto accident or traffic stop.
Also it seems as though large cities like Indianapolis, Chicago, etc.
are scrapping these systems.. because they just don't work. Apparently
Chicago spent nearly $300 Million and couldn't get their system to work.
If anyone knows of any issues or even anything good with the Digital
Radio systems, particularly with the P25 system, post them at the WSAZ
site above. They are likely going to do a follow up story and any
information will be great. Also, please only post about emergency
services use of the Digital Radios... not about use in the normal
business world.
Thank you!
