Description

This is a user group for ATCS Monitor, a Railroad data, CTC monitor and display for railfans, monitoring enthusiasts, and the industry. Our purpose is to provide a forum to share experiences, advice, tips and ask questions on the use of the software. Currently supported protocols are ATCS, ARES, Genisys, SCS-128 and EOT.

UP train C-CBWL9-20 is at full throttle as it attacks the 1.0% grade at MP 26.5 on BNSF's Orin Subdivision, moving yet another load of coal out of the Powder River Basin in northeastern Wyoming on May 20th, 2008. The train has just entered the recently-expanded East Coal Creek Junction control plant; visible in the distance a loaded BNSF train is stopped at West Coal Creek Junction, and the wye to the right goes to Coal Creek Junction and the spur to Coal Creek Mine.

Over the past couple years BNSF has completed a series of capacity-improvement projects on the Orin Sub; now, 117 miles of triple-main-track railroad extend from Donkey Creek Junction, east of Gillette, to Shawnee Junction, near the like-named town, and four main tracks are draped over Logan Hill between MP 59.7 and Bill. The Orin Sub's CPs had originally been equipped with ARES, but as part of these projects BNSF has been converting the line to ATCS. Interestingly, each new ATCS MCP actually consists of unique addresses for each main track.
