Description

Discussion of the Great Northern, Canadian National and Canadian Pacific Railways' historic rivers, lakes and railway operations in Southern British Columbia including the fabled Kettle Valley Railway.

Lines covered are the GN, CN and CPRail lines west of Crowsnest, BC and south of, BUT NOT INCLUDING, the CPR and CNR's transcontinental main lines along the Fraser and Thompson Rivers. Other exclusions are the operations of the PGE/BC Railway or CN's railroad line to Prince George as these lines are well-covered by other groups.

Discussion on these northern lines within the BC Interior will be off-topic for this list unless the topic directly relates to the southern lines described in the first paragraph. Examples would be operations from Revelstoke to Kelowna via Sicamous or CN/KPR operations on CPR main line between Kamloops and Kelowna via Campbell's Creek. Main line operations not going to Kelowna or other southern points, unless there is a connection to the branches, would be off topic

Also included in our list of lines that can be discussed are, the GN lines of the former VV&E traversing the US Canada border and branches north of the current Burlington Northern Santa Fe main line that were built to connect to Canadian points. The Morrissey, Fernie & Michel Ry and other private carriers along the lines are also included.

As noted previously, the barge and steamship services of CN, GN and CPR, their on-lake barge served sidings and facilities and thje branches served exclusively by water are all included in topics that can be discussed.
This list was started up to give many of us a special place to discuss the trains, sternwheelers, tugs and barges that once operated through this early Canadian frontier. Discussions are open to discuss the communities, the industries and other topics which directly relate to the transportation infrastructure which developed, flourished and now has mostly disappeared.
