Description
This group is open to all enthusiasts interested in the former Brighton Corporation Transport Department, Thomas Tilling, Brighton, Hove & District Omnibus Company and the operation of trams, trolleybuses and motorbuses between 1904 and 1985. Southdown vehicles that carried the joint "Southdown - B H & D" fleetname are also included. Although now defunct operators, a few of the motorbuses and trolleybuses are preserved. Please feel free to discuss and share your thoughts about these former Brighton bus companies. Any photographs of the buses are very welcome. Brighton Corporation was the first fleet in the U.K. to pioneer One Man Operation in 1966 whilst BH&D was unique as being the only Tilling company to operate trolleybuses and sported a very individual livery within the nationalised bus fleets.
Of interest, this group was set up in 2005 to mark the 70th Anniversary of the incorporation of the former Tilling Company.
The photo shown on this page illustrates the scope of this group, taken at this year`s Worthing (Adur) bus rally and brings together Brighton Corporation PD2 no. 23 and Brighton Hove & District Bristol KSW 6447 both in the red/cream livery as per 1939 Agreement.
