This list is devoted to the BL2 (and BL1) locomotive, including model railroading and preserved locomotives. 58 BL2 locomotives (and one BL1 demonstrator locomotive) were produced by EMD, the Electro-Motive Division of General Motors in 1948 and 1949. BL stood for "Branch Line", where these locomotives were designed to work. This 1500 hp locomotive was internally similar to the F3, but designed to be used as a road switcher. The GP7 road switcher production started a few months after BL2 production ended.
The locomotives were originally ordered by the Bangor & Aroostook (BAR); Boston & Maine (B&M); Chesapeake & Ohio (C&O); Chicago & Eastern Illinois (C&EI); Chicago, Indianapolis & Louisville (Monon); Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific (CRI&P); Florida East Coast (FEC); Missouri Pacific (MP); Pere Marquette (PM); and Western Maryland (WM). A handful of these locomotives have been preserved.
