Re: Pullman Plan 2917B - NH SOUTHPORT

John,

You have done very nice work creating a model of a unique parlor car. It will
look great in a Conn. River Train. The roof of the Walthers HW 6-3 is a favorite
starting point for modeling B&M's Plan 2417D (BIRCH, ELM, MAPLE)and Plan 2416H
(BEECH)parlors. The narrow clerestory and the ductwork are an almost perfect
match for these cars too.

On the subject of the roof details over the buffet section of SOUTHPORT, I
suspect the single kitchen exhaust vent used on BIRCH and the others would be
most appropriate. ONWARD and PROGRESS used four of these same vents for their
kitchen requirements. The HO Scale PSC Kitchen Exhaust Vent is a good starting
point. The stack height definitely needs to be shortened on this brass casting
if it is to look correct on a model.

I look forward to seeing more of your creations.

Tom E. Thompson

John, That was a very helpful description, thank you. I understand now how such a design as Walthers' would help a kitbasher go about his work. But, I wonder...
