Dear Fellow BNI group members,

Last Thursday after our regular meeting, the Membership Committee met.  One of the things we discussed was how to increase our membership and we brainstormed some business categories that we wanted to focus on as we looked for businesses to invite to our visitor's day.  Our ideas were: Chiropractor; house cleaner; head hunter; landscaper/snow remover; CPA; and personal trainer.

WE WANT TO HAVE YOUR IDEAS TO ADD TO THIS "FOCUS LIST".

Please think for a moment about your network sphere (the kinds of businesses that would make up your power team like Davis and Lee have created) and then e-mail your ideas to me before Thursday.  I will compile a list and that will propel us to launching into our visitor calls!!!

Thanks a ton, team.  You are the greatest.  See you Thursday.

Linda for the Membership Committee

Dear Rachel,

I am interested in attending the actual e-women networking luncheon.  This is not that, right?  It sounds like it is an extra networking seminar.

Love, Linda

Subject: BNI Meeting Reminder & 10-Minute Speaker Rotation Issues
sierratech_net

Greetings Everyone:

There seems to be a lot of confusion on the Speaker Rotation roster, and it makes it very difficult for Christine or Shannon to keep it up to date.  I suggested last week that I add an "ONLINE BNI Calendar" on my website that can be maintained by Shannon or Christine as opposed to the spreadsheet.  This will require members to check the calendar as opposed to receiving weekly roster updates, but that takes very little time.

I feel we need to stick with the speaker rotation but if something comes up and you can't make the meeting (you are scheduled to speak at), I don't see anything wrong switching slots with someone, but it will be incumbent on the members to let Christine know so she will be able to update the "ONLINE Calendar" as opposed to changing the spreadsheet and having to redistribute every time.  If the group supports the "Online Calendar" idea, I would spend time with Christine and Shannon to train them on how to maintain the Calendar (it is really easy).  We need to resolve this dilemma now, because as our membership grows it will just get worse and it won't be fair to Christine or Shannon attempting to keep up with it.

We need to discuss this during announcement phase of the meeting tomorrow, and we need suggestions to simplify this, if the group does not support the "Online Calendar".

On a different note, please keep your eyes & ears open to any and all potential clients for referrals to our members.  There are some members who haven't seen a referral in months, and we need to try harder to spread the news.  These individuals have given many referrals but have not received any in return.  The economy has a lot to do with this, but we need to be creative, so everyone benefits from their membership.  This will also improve as we find new members in order to expand the networking base.

I hope to see everyone tomorrow at 8:15 AM at First Centennial Title.  If you can arrive early, please do so to help Christine to rearrange the room for our meeting so she doesn't have to do this on her own.  I cannot thank Christine enough for her providing us such a great venue to meet.

Thank you for everyone's support, and hopefully 2008 will be a banner year for growing our group and passing referrals.

Hi All:

Just to let the newer members know, we have a YAHOO GROUP dedicated to our chapter.  Anyone can register to receive emails and includes a calendar to email events published in the group.  The link is below:

You can also read the history of our group if so inclined.  Any Subscribed member of the Group Member who sends an email to  BNI_InclineVillage@yahoogroups.com will post to the group (just like this email).  Those individuals who are group subscribers will receive this email twice, because I added the link above in my Carbon Copy field..  There is an ONLINE calendar that can be used to send alerts to the membership if used.  There have been two different spammers who registered within the group who I removed, so the Group is not abused (we all get way too much SPAM).

We have also discussed publishing a TAHOE INCLINE BNI Calendar on www.sierratech.org which I am willing to do if the group feels compelled to use it.  I would train Christine Johnson (and Shannon Pisano) on how to maintain the calendar for the presentation schedule if the chapter wishes not to use the YAHOO GROUPS.  Brett express concern about YAHOO GROUPS because his Firewall rejects such emails, so the WEB CALENDAR might be the better way to go.

Further discussion at our next meeting should be scheduled to see what the membership desires.

Best to all!

Greetings Everyone:

I just spoke with Shawn Noe regarding tomorrows meeting location.

There was a plan to do a test meeting at Intero Realty, but due to late notice Shawn and Sally decided it would be best to meet at the Bonanza building, as normally scheduled (8:15).

The test meeting at Intero Realty is scheduled Oct 25TH meeting (Oct. 18 Meeting is at the College).  Test meeting time on Oct 25Th will be at 8:30 AM.

Hello all,

Just a friendly reminder that our next visitors day is only a little over two weeks away.  Where does the time go?  In order to be ready for the October 18th meeting we will need our lists of people we intend to invite by this Thursday meeting.  I will update the invitation letter that we used previously and forward it to everyone following the next meeting so that the invitations can go out before the October 11th meeting.  We will then follow up with confirmation phone calls to all the people we sent invitations to.  Last time we also had good success in calling people before sending out invitations to confirm addresses and to quickly introduce ourselves, BNI, and what we can offer their business.  Once it was clear that we are a professional business organization interested in inviting them into our group, people were quite friendly and enthusiastic to learn more.

Let us all try to have at least 25 names on our list.  Again, these do not have to be people/businesses you know personally… you can fill out your list by thumbing through the yellow pages.  For those of us that participated in the last visitors day, another good source would be those folks you contacted who expressed interest but could not/did not make the last visitor’s day meeting.

All the best,

Shawn

Hi Everyone!

Great meeting today, and I appreciate the support you all have expressed to me.  We do have a great chapter, and I feel fortunate and blessed to be a part of such a wonderful group of professionals.

Michelle, of Alpine Interiors, suggested that we post on our website not only the Membership Business Names, but also a photograph of the member representative. Sooooo..... Be prepared for me to photograph all members present (individually), next week for this reason.  Michelle felt she would feel better to have a face to associate with the name of the company, to help her to put a face with a name (Since Michelle is Dave Koch's substitute, this would help her learn names, and the type of business represented in our chapter).

Ultimately, I could see a Mobile Enhanced webpage, so if out in the field, you could access the webpage from a mobile phone (substitute as a business card), and give the contact details to the client being referred.  This would be like a business card "ONLINE", just in case you did not have the business card with you.

I think this would help a great deal, so we would always have our equivalent to a business card within grasp of our phones which are web enabled, or just access from any computer.

Have a great weekend!

Greetings Everyone:

Can you believe it? Summer is half over (I hate saying that, since sometimes we feel we haven't even started our summer because of busy schedules), and we need to continue to network with other business about BNI. Let's push to grow so we can have enough members to move to SNC for our meetings.

This is a reminder about our next meeting on August 2, (tomorrow) at 8:15 AM at the Bonanza building.

The Bonanza has requested us to park elsewhere  due to parking space limitations (familiar issue in Incline Village, never enough parking).  They suggest using US Bank or Raley's parking lot. Jana suggested the parking lot off of Incline Way, where she stated there is lots of parking, and it is adjacent (actually behind) the Bonanza building parking area.  Please try to park elsewhere since the Bonanza has been so gracious in allowing us to use their facility.

I hope everyone is enjoying the awesome weather!  I look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow at 8:15 AM!

Great Job Rachel, we are proud of you!  I love the photograph and feel it was actually the best of the three images displayed on the winner's exhibition.

Greetings everyone:

I wish to thank Bill Ferrall for stepping at the last minute and doing a great 10 Minute presentation a week ahead of schedule.  Good job Bill!

I would also like to thank Ron from FOX & FOX Salon for visiting our chapter, we have been trying to get a representative from a Salon for some time, and BNI would be very conducive to a Salon business joining our group.

Dave Koch had Michelle as a substitute and she did a great job. I recommend businesses bring their substitutes to the training which will help them when they are filling in. We are all looking forward to our MSP training next week.

We have a great group, and we need to keep it growing so be sure to invite visitors to the June 28TH meeting.  Remember we are dark on July 5TH due to several businesses being out of town that week.

Sorry for the last minute notice, but our MSP Training needs to move to next week.  Andrea has an appointment (previously arranged) and Willie is already scheduled to be in Reno At 9:00 AM.  Chris is under the weather, so no one is available to present the training.

We tried to work something out, but it doesn't look like it's going to happen.  Tomorrows meeting is now slated as a stated meeting.

Greetings Everyone:

This is an email to test the new BNI email distribution list, and to congratulate our BNI Chapter in reaching Core status.  All the hard work for visitor's day has paid off, along with all the months preceding in our effort to launch this!

We have come a long way from the first days at the Marquez Mexican Restaurant and then the Biltmore Cafe, attempting to get our chapter off the ground.

Linda Nerstad was the original member who kick started this idea having a BNI Chapter here in Incline Village.  I have Linda to thank since she was the who shared the idea with me early on, and a group of about 4 of us met with Willie Kerschner at Marquez Mexican Restaurant at 7:00 AM  (Early start time for Willie Kerschner, who drove from Virgina City each week to help us in our struggle to kick start the chapter), for a couple of months.

Our chapter membership is made up from some of the finest people in North Tahoe area and a pleasure getting to know, thanks to their commitment.  A special thank you is in order to those Pre-Core members below who stuck with it:

1) Dennis & Linda Nerstad - Kicking off the idea of a local BNI Chapter, and getting so many out to attend.
2) Shawn Noe - for spearheading visitor's day, and providing sound advice as a PRE-CORE member.
3) Sally Small - for getting us such a great place to hold our visitor's day meeting, her encouraging comments to the leadership group (keeping us going) and her work on membership committee.
4) Virva Porcelli - who has done such an awesome job educating us about building our businesses and how to pass referrals.
5) Bill Ferrall - Providing great wisdom to the membership committee, and keeping us entertained with his great sense of humor, making this fun.
6) Shannon Pisano - Our newest BNI member who did a great job on Visitor's Day Signs, and who has also stepped into the Secretary/Treasurer's position.

Most important I would like to congratulate the following new applicants who saw the value of BNI, and have submitted applications (some already accepted):

1) Melissa Wolken - American Family Insurance
2) Gwen Gilliam Hicks - Virtual Trust Real Estate Investment
3) Janna Allen - Empire Contractors
4) Dave Koch - Alpine Custom Interiors
5) Davis Clark - A. & C.C. Technologies
6) Ken Viel - Residential Rentals
7) Lucy Canton - C & W Cleaning Services

We have a great group of people, with lots of diversity.  Please remember we need to continue to invite other businesses in order to grow the membership.  The more people in the chapter, the better the opportunity to receive business.  Please feel free to invite visitors to each meeting (Except June 14, 2007 which is our chapter's MSP Training for our membership, instructed by Andrea Boyd).  We are looking into changing our meeting venue to a larger meeting space, to accommodate growth.

I also wish to extend a special thank you to Willie Kerschner, and Andrea Boyd for sticking with us and for all the encouragement.

Finally, below are two interest links dedicated to our chapter:

http://www.sierratech.org/bni.htm  Incline Tahoe BNI Chapter webpage.  It was suggested to list the membership contact information on our website, and I will be adding this at a later date.

bni_inclinevillage@yahoogroups.com Is our Yahoo Groups site for our chapter.  If you join the group, then all of the reminders (on the calendar) and messages will be sent to your email.  Also a great place to read the history of our chapter.  If you are not clear on how to use YAHOO groups, I will be demonstrating how to register and post to the group at a later meeting.

Have a great weekend, and see everyone next week!

Interesting......

J. Davis Clark (Printer) was in attendance yesterday and he seemed to accept our suggestions on how to handle absenteeism when he had to go out of town (using a client as a substitute or Dennis if he is available).  Looks like we will have some competition here!

Thank you everyone for making Thursday's event such a fabulous success. All of you did a stellar job of pulling it together. I'm very impressed with where you have come to with these meetings. It bears testimony to the shared vision and collaborative spirit you all embody.

Thank you also for the basket that I won - it had a little bit of all of you which was very sweet. Pancakes and coffee this morning, followed by a shower with lots of nice smelly stuff, and then I'll put my spare coins in the piggy bank egg, and use those pens to write some notes on the postits while wearing my hat.

So sorry I've been unable to join you - some of you know that with the latest contract I've been working for a company, I've had conference calls every tuesday and thursday morning, clashing with the meeting times. I'm intending that will change and will get back to you if it does!

Blessings to you all,

Rachel

Greetings everyone:

I am sending this email out to the group to let everyone know how well attended our BNI Visitor's Day event was, and the chapter accomplished it's initial goal, "To Reach the North Tahoe Community Businesses" for BNI.  I believe we had 22 visitors, who not only witnessed how BNI works, but also participated in promoting their businesses as well.

I wish to make a special thank you to the following people:

Shawn Noe:
Shawn spearheaded this event, and researched what we needed to do to make this event a success.  Shawn continue to push us all, which made it happen and generated the invitational letters for us all to use.

Linda Nerstad:
Linda did an awesome job contacting businesses.  She had a huge list, and reached out to several businesses in the community.  She also had name tags ready for all but a couple of visitors who we had no knowledge were attending. This made a huge impression on the visitors.

Sally Small:
Sally also did an excellent job reaching many businesses in the community.  She also made the arrangements with the college for the wonderful room the event was held in, and made catering arrangements.

Shannon Pisano:
Shannon made the signs placed in the parking lot and at the entrance of the campus.  Between her and Sally we had great visibility using Sally's "A FRAME OPEN-HOUSE SIGNS" with Shannon's "BNI" overlays.  The signs had attention getting balloons as well, which made us easy to find.

Virva Porcelli
Put together a wonderful basket as a door prize for the visitor's raffle.  Virva also did a nice BNI educational presentation. The basket she put together contained donated items from our chapter's membership (the door prize was won by Rachel Flower who has visited our BNI group in the past, congratulations to Rachel).

Bill Ferrall:
Bill's warm personality always makes a lasting impact on those who meet him for the first time.  Bill was one of the greeters, and many people commented to me how he, and other members, made them feel welcomed.  Bill also did an excellent job exhibiting how BNI works, with his commercial and testimonial.

Dennis Nerstad:
Dennis and Linda must have arrived at 7:30 AM, because when I got there at 7:45 Dennis was already moving tables to set up the room in a configuration that worked well for our meeting.  Dennis is always there to make sure we are prepared.

Willeta Kerschner:
Willie, our BNI director, did a great 10 minute presentation on BNI, which generated a lot of good questions and reinforced the benefits of why BNI works.

Thanks again to all who attended, and to those on the list who visited as well!  We should follow up on those who visited, and see if BNI will work for their business marketing plan!

Have a great weekend!

Hi, Team,

I have Sally, Bob, Virva, and my nametags all ready for our Visitors Day.

In order to print out others, I need the names.  Thanks for sending them sooner rather than later, so it can be done ahead and alphabetized for our meeting.

Greetings Everyone:

I spoke with Sally Small this afternoon and she needs a head count of your visitors for Thursday's BNI meeting. This is so she can communicate to the college the number of people attending on Thursday.

So please send Sally an email at: sally@... by Wednesday morning of your visitors.

Thank you to those who have really pushed this, it should be a great event!

Hi, Guys,

Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow morning, but I wanted to
send you a list of the community people I have contacted. I was
going to send an attachemnt of the Word document, but I do not see a
method to attach it. Anyway, I have a ton of fun talking to people.
As you know, I got my businesses from the telephone book and they
rarely had names with addresses that would work for mailing, so I
decided to call each of them!!!! I met a ton of neat people and MANY
are coming. (Sure hope Willie and Andrea bring lots of broshures and
applications!!) I managed to send out 41 letters to interested
people. Sally, is our room large enough? What a problem to have!

Since I cannot send the actual names without retyping them, I will
bring my list to the meeting tomorrow.

Virva, I will also bring our basket contribution. It will not be
Nikken, for I do not think the average person would place value on
something they did not know about....may change my mind.

See you soon, Linda
