Reserve Bank of India has fixed the interest rates on NRE deposits by
capping it at 250 bp(2.50 per cent) above the London Inter Bank Offer
Rate (LIBOR)/SWAP rates for corresponding maturity for one to three
years. The new rates will be effective from July 17 and will be
applicable to fresh deposits and deposits renewed after their present
maturity. The rates on Foreign Currency Non-Resident deposit,
however, remains unchanged at 25 basis points minus LIBOR/SWAP of the
corresponding maturity. NRE deposits received during the month will
be offered a rate at 250 basis points over the Libor ruling at the
end of previous month.
Earlier, the banks had the discretion to charge the interest rates
which had resulted in some banks offering very high rates to attract
NRI deposits. Most commercial banks used to offer 5 per cent interest
on NRE term deposits in the 1-3 year tenor and around 5.25 per cent
for deposits over three years. However with the cap, the banks could
pay only 3.70 per cent for deposits in the 1-3 year maturity.

about the authenticity or applicability of the regulations. The Non
Resident community (NRIs/PIOs/OCBs) will find this an invaluable
reference tool and ready reckoner.
This Handbook is divided in 6 Chapters has 32 subsections &; 2
annexures. Handbook provides various definitions, detailed note on

I think it would be a good idea to cross merge all the seven
associate banks of SBI, delinking from it and make a separate big
entity. By this the new bank will have autonomy in taking decisions
and will have widespread network across India. It would be second
largest bank after SBI which will have good network in North India
and South India. In the present banking scenario it would be
difficult for small banks to survive in the industry. Big banks only
will survive and serve the customers in a better way in all aspects.
Because they will have widespread network across the country.
This move will also reduce the number of Nationalised Banks as
recommened by Narsimham Committee.
It is the right time for the government to think in this direction.
Because now all the banks are undertaking major computerisation work
of their branches. Once all the branches are computerised it will be
a time consuming process and difficult also to integrate the
different softwares used in different banks. Please let me know your
opinions in this regard.

Networking timeline
Making new contacts
The important elements of networking can be summed up in four simple
steps:
1. Contact the person
2. Follow up after your meeting
3. Take the suggested action steps
4. Follow up with the contact regularly
The name of the game in networking is regular and consistent follow up
. If the contact welcomes the initial networking meeting and it goes
well, they will want to hear about your progress. Remember that
networking is a give and take process, offer any contacts you have and
back up this offer with action.
Why Network?
Networking is a powerful way of building professional relationships.
It is a process of actively fostering contacts and creating ways to
disseminate information.
Networking Fears
Many people hesitate to contact others for fear of imposing or asking
for help. The reality: Most people are happy to do something for
someone else, if asked. The mistakes most candidates make is not
preparing sufficiently for each meeting.
Beware Common Networking Errors
Problems occur when a job-seeker only goes through the motions of
contacting others. It is not enough to just meet someone and conduct a
15-minute interview or ask others for a leads or to pass along their
resume. Whether you are approaching a colleague, a friend, a family
member or stranger, how you present your purpose will make the
difference between a satisfying or unsatisfying experience. Come prepared.
There are two basic goals to networking:
1. Greater visibility
2. Increased information
Don't Forget
Thank the contact and make plans to meet again. Keep the contact aware
of your future career moves and ask about their plans. This process of
nurturing contacts will sustain and enhance your career.
Can Banknet India also provide market information about Banking
software companies in other countries. If yes whom & how to contact
