Hello Colleagues,

Northwestern University Career Services is in the process of developing a student conference for our Fall Quarter. In our planning we researched possible keynote speakers and came across, Pursue The Passion, www.pursuethepassion.com - a group of young college graduates who toured the country interviewing people who love their jobs. What they learned from their journey is then shared with students all around the country. This group has offered to come to NU on November 7th in the early afternoon to speak to the students who attend our conference. The cost for us is only travel and hotel, but we wondered if other colleges or universities in the Chicago area would want to also have this group speak to their students. In doing this, maybe there is a way to keep costs down by sharing the travel and hotel expenses.

Please visit their website today, and let me know if you are interested. We are considering having Pursue The Passion speak on a Saturday, but plans are still tentative. If you have any questions I look foward to hearing back from you!

Thank you,

Great to meet everyone at today's CCPN meeting. Interestingly, as we met about
work-life balance, a book called 'Womenomics' was launched today. It speaks very
highly of women's value in the workplace and our power to ask for the
flexibility that we need to balance work and family.

Hi Everyone,

For those of you who still maintain resource areas / career libraries,
what do you do to reduce the number of materials that disappear?

We currently allow free copies of limited pages of the books, but we still
find that some items disappear every year.

Hi Everyone:

First, I wanted everyone to know about a free webinar sponsored by LinkedIn on
how you can utilize LinkedIn better with your students and alumni. Here is the
addy with the information:

http://careerservices.linkedin.com/webinar/

Second, I am looking for recommendations on a consultant to come in and work
with our department. Name, Phone number and email and maybe a small blurb on
your experience would be wonderful.

We're looking for someone to come in, assess our situation and needs and provide
recommendations both to us and the higher level administration. We'd be looking
for both verbal and written recommendations.

We're gaining a career counselor now that our services have been reshuffled and
all career related services will be housed under us. The current career
counselor has retired after 35 years on campus.

We're also losing another staff member to retirement in December. Her position
will be entirely rewritten and redone to move it from a Civil Service Bachelor's
required position to a Administration position that requires a Masters Degree.

Strategic planning suggestions will also be helpful.

In other words, we're going through a lot of changes and guidance would be
appreciated!

Last, here is the info on the next GCRC meeting in case anyone missed it - It's
at US Cellular this time. Despite being a blue blooded Cubs fan, I'll be there.
Here's the info:

US Cellular Field
