I realize this site was started a little over a year ago and
accomplished very little thanks to the organizer, however, I just had
to say one more thing before I withdraw from it. I even hope Sandy
reads this.
From what I understand (when I spoke with some of the girls who I had
not seen in some time and who had gone to that faithful meeting)
attending Local 384's elections was a waste of time. No one ran
against Ms. Tucker and I say at this point she deserves to win and
deserves to be congratulated. I understand that she ran unopposed
even though another was nominated. What a shame. As I stated
earlier, she deserves to win.
No one even questioned that on the eve of electing a president and
executive board for our local that our local (384) finally announced
a tentative contract. Wasn't anyone suspicious?
Again congratulations to Ms. Tucker, her board and Ms. Roberts.
Probably the only people who have held a position longer that were
elected would be the pope!

Hi Anne,
I am at home also
(7:50pm) I rewrote my letter and am sending out. Did you send to President M?
I agree with election, if someone is going to make a decision they should start getting to it.

Hi, Haven't been on in quite a while. I am writing this from
my computer at home before I leave for work. I went to our meeting yesterday and made a few phone calls to other colleges to find out what happened at Barclay Street last week. From what I can understand Ms. Tucker laced into certain shop stewards about the letter that was sent to Lillian Roberts. I honestly don't know why she even bothered because when I spoke with a representative from Ms. Roberts office I was told that each local was autonomous and petition was sent to Sandy Tucker. When I asked if that made sense, since we were complaining about our President and the Executive Officers of the Executive Board, I was told someone would get back to me. I am still waiting. Thank God I am not holding my breath and waiting!
Ms. Tucker, however, is in a better frame of mind and quite agreeable this week, from what I can understand, as she wants the membership to each send an individual letter to the Chancellor. So
she needs us. It is a good idea and one that I know was suggested to her many months ago. But now it can be her idea. I do agree about taking this action even though I hate to see her get any kind of credit or kudos for it!
My next question is who are we nominating to run against her or her choosen successor in April?

Subject: [CUNY384] General Membership Meeting of November 19th
For all who still read this post including Ms. Tucker, I have sent a
letter/petition to each shop steward at the various colleges asking
them to have the membership sign it regarding our treatment at the
General Membership Meeting of November 19th. I don't know if anything
will be done about it, but I am giving you a heads up so you can at
least ask them.
I'm sure this information will be known at Barclay Street before I get
to work this morning, but it can't be said that I didn't work on it
from home.
Thank you, we are having our membership meeting on the 19th too.I'm writing from HOME too.

I think she tried but failed miserably. I'm sending this question out to everyone on the list and those potentially on the list. We need to decide what our next step is. Clearly people were enraged. We need to use that and move foreward. Monday night was wonderful but if we don't decide on how to move forward we'll move backwards. Encourage your coworkers to get on the list and participate. Carol
It was very nice meeting you at the union meeting. There was quite a rucus. It's amazing how much you can accomplish when you stand up. I thinkSandy's days are numbered. Hopefully you're back on the group. Actually, I think we need to decided what we want to do next. The yahoo group is a useful tool. Carol
i will send you my fax # tomorrow evening...i would love to see what issues you have and pass them on to every one in my dept. just a side par we are all going in from dept that is a 1st in all the years there have been meetings... we have a great turnout. oh poor sandy tucker
Keep them coming. Speaking of which are you coming to the union meeting on Monday. I think your poetry is going over very well from all of the peole that I've spoken to about it. We need to show her our collective contempt. We've written up a list of problems with the proposed amendments to the constitution. If you send me your fax number I'll fax it to you. Maybe you can spread it around. Carol
I'm sure you are all aware by now that at this meeting Sandy will
attempt to change the constitution for the worse. She hopes that the
new executive board will eliminate all shop stewards except for the
most craven. She's hoping to shred every ounce of democracy that we
still retain. I'll be outside of the building handing out a flyer
with just some of the changes that she hopes to make. Anyone who
wishes to join me is welcome. We need to vote it all down but we also
need to stand up to her if she prevents anyone from speaking. We
should collectively be outraged at her lack of democracy and say so.
Everyone is entitled to speak. Last meeting the mike was gabbed by
one of Sandy's supporters preventing Myra from finishing her thought.
I'm also sure that we all must be aware that no contract is
forthcoming. Let's not be shy. Changes don't come to those who are
quiet.
Hope to see everyone there. Carol
