FOX Sports Chooses All-Star Fuel for All-Star Game

Dear Troy,

Fans who tune into the Major League Baseball All-Star Game tonight will be watching a broadcast powered by biodiesel. FOX Sports will use B20, a blend of 20 percent biodiesel and 80 percent diesel, in all of its generators, satellite trucks and other diesel equipment at its television compound in San Francisco. What’s more, the company has committed to using B20 to power its broadcasts of the World Series, Super Bowl, the Bowl Championship Series and other major events.

For more, read the news release, FOX Sports Chooses All-Star Fuel for All-Star Game.

Washington drivers using less gasoline

Higher prices at the pump are having an effect

By LEVI PULKKINEN
P-I REPORTER

Daily commutes are getting longer, suburban sprawl continues and local mass transit's still stuck in traffic.

Still, people in Washington are apparently using less gasoline.

  Gas consumption charted

Since 1996, gas consumption per capita in the state has fallen about 10 percent, down to 7.9 gallons a week in 2006, according to an analysis of government data completed by the Sightline Institute, a Seattle-based think tank. That's the lowest level since 1968.

And the reason, the data suggest, is that the rising price of gas has finally reached a tipping point.

While mass transit is becoming more widely available and building restrictions have forced more dense development, the gradual decrease -- starting in 1999 -- seems to also be tied to the increase in gas prices, said Clark Williams-Derry, the Sightline research director of the Cascadia Scorecard 2007 report released in June.

"The bottom line is that higher gas prices do seem to have made drivers and car buyers more sensitive to the price of gas," Williams-Derry said from his Seattle office. "Hybrids still continue to sell briskly, and some of the larger, more gas-guzzling vehicles aren't selling as well or selling at deep discount."

Low gas prices through much of the 1990s provided little incentive to conserve. As prices at the pump began to rise -- topping out in May at a record high -- drivers started making little changes.

When fuel costs are up, Williams-Derry said, families are more likely to hop into their most efficient cars for outings. Drivers stop making non-essential trips, or start lumping errands together to save gas.

But bigger changes -- such as moving closer to work, or giving up the car altogether -- come more slowly.

Of the factors that affect people's behavior, price is usually the strongest incentive for lifestyle change, said Tim Haab, an Ohio State University professor specializing in resource economics.

Still, Haab said, people don't immediately react to price increases.

"In the short term, you're not going to see that much of a change," said Haab, whose research focus is determining the costs of environmentally destructive behavior. But, "there is a good bit of evidence that people do change behavior over the long run."

Haab said other economists have estimated that the actual cost of a gallon of gas is about $1 more than what drivers currently pay at the pump. That cost includes public spending and the expense of negative environmental and health effects.

Williams-Derry said higher gas taxes could recoup those costs, although Washington law mandates that gas taxes only pay transportation expenses.

More importantly, he said, a tax would enable consumers to judge whether the benefit they get from a gallon of gas is worth its actual cost. In other countries with high gas taxes based on this model, drivers have decided it's not.

In British Columbia, which also was evaluated by Sightline, residents burn two-thirds as much gasoline as Washington residents.

The lower rate of consumption is partly because of decade-old development rules focused on creating "compact, complete communities," said Peter Ladner, a Vancouver city councilor and board member on a Vancouver-area regional transportation board.

"Greater Vancouver is geographically constrained, so we've been forced to go up rather than out," Ladner said.

But Ladner said higher gas prices -- Vancouver drivers were paying the equivalent of $4.01 a gallon this week -- propped up by larger gas taxes also push his constituents to walk or take mass transit.

Williams-Derry said leaders in Washington and other states should look at increasing gas taxes to boost conservation.

"Taxes are sort of the taboo word, but we have one of the most regressive tax systems in the country," Williams-Derry said. "We're actually only asking people to pay the cost of what they're using."

    Message from the CEO

Learning business in the men's room

An entrepreneur can learn some of the most profound business lessons in the most unexpected places. Take the men's room, for example. (I suspect the same lessons can be learned in the women's room, but I can't say for sure!)

Now, I'm sure you are among the 95% who say they wash their hands before they leave (and not among the 40% who say they do but don't!). And washed hands must be dried-right?-chances are, using an electric hand dryer.

The next time you dry your hands-using Xlerator, World, Nova, or whatever-check out the wording on the machine. You will find one of two types of messages; sometimes both.

One is written by the company's engineers that describes the technical specs of the dryer:

    • 115 volts
    • 20 amps
    • 60 Hz A.C.
    • 2A motor
    • Model No. XRA5

Fascinating, really. Makes me want to bring in my tools and take it apart the next time I have to go.

The other message-controlled by the marketing department-describes the advantages of an electric dryer over paper towels:
    • Saves trees
    • Protects environment
    • Eliminates paper towel waste
    • More sanitary

Comforting, really. Makes me feel like a socially responsible person. Maybe I should wash and dry my hands again so I can save even more paper.

    Now to my point!

Business plans should include both kinds of messages, but read more like the latter than the former. You should spend more time and effort on what difference your product or service makes than on how it works or operates. Spend more time telling us the benefits than the features. Yet, most entrepreneurs fail big-time here. They spend too much time on the What and not enough time on the So What of their business.

So, next time you go to the men's (or women's) room, check out the hand dryers. Then go rewrite your business plan.

As always, please send your comments to jwiggins@...

The Tuesday night conference calls shall be field-hosted (no corporate representation) for the next several weeks until a new National Sales Director is hired and/or a volunteer is found to host the calls.

Our corporate team has been focused on getting the biodiesel plant fully operational at its latest output capacity.  This must remain our laser focus until completed, so that the company can re-launch sales & marketing efforts for wind, solar, and biodiesel and be able to deliver satisfactory results to our customers and sales force.  We anticipate the plant being fully operational by early September.  At that time, we should have enough wind turbine installations completed to effectively begin a nationwide wind turbine marketing program.  In the meantime, please work directly with your sales manager for all issues related to sales, support, and service.

Announcement: when we re-launch our marketing effort, all associates, sales associates, and sales managers will be required to use the web-based Microsoft Dynamics CRM (Customer Relationship Manager) system from either your computer or your phone / Smartphone / PDA / Blackberry.  There is no charge for this service through the end of 2007 (Microsoft is offering a free trial).  If you wish to enroll on the free trial, go to http://www.microsoft.com/dynamics/crm/default.mspx.  This will allow your sales manager and Krystal Energy corporate staff to monitor your progress with customers, provide better service, communication, marketing, catalog, product management and technical info, installation scheduling, delivery scheduling, support / customer service, and other benefits.  Many functions currently provided by the KP back office will be migrated over to the CRM system, which again will work from a smart phone (with Internet access) or computer anywhere in the world.

If you do not have a sales manager who can answer your questions, please contact support@... to request to be assigned to one.  Also contact support if you wish to volunteer to host the Tuesday night conference call.  This is a paid position (for part-time call hosting) after serving as an unpaid call host for a trial period.

    IMAGINE (source unknown)

The year is 2016. You glance at the television one morning
and see President Obama having another of his many press conferences.

He has now been in office for almost 8 years.
He has been a very popular President, and things are so
greatly improved since he took office in January of 2009.
You notice that his hair has lightened and he still has that winning smile and that take charge/positive energy that he had when he was campaigning back in 2008.

You remember how concerned you were about whether or not he
would win in 2008 and you feel deeply contented that he has
been safely in office for such a long time.

He and Congress have accomplished the goals they have set out to address:
global warming, healthcare, development of alternative
energy sources and a variety of other matters important to
the country, caring for the planet and the restoration of
    America's respect in the world.

You feel deep gratitude for the past eight years and how things have unfolded.

American is seen as a new kind of leader, one that guides globally by responsible and
    inspired stewardship.

    See it...Feel it...breathe it...Pass it on.

Let us remember... all of the wonderful reasons we appreciate this reality and

our part in helping to build it.

    THE CHALLENGE:
Take 30 seconds right now. Close your eyes and imagine exactly what our

    country will feel like.

    Imagine successful diplomacy.
    Imagine peace and restored prosperity,
justice, and the grassroots finding their voice.
Imagine windmills and clean cars and new kinds of  sustainable technology.
Imagine the earth being healed and revitalized, with
    everyone being brothers and sisters.
Imagine being very proud of your country and its leaders.
Imagine whatever it is that draws you to support change.
Imagine what your life will look and feel like.

Just 30 seconds. Do it several times a day. We can shift

    Turkey Day joke...

I recently picked a new primary care doctor. After two visits and
exhaustive lab tests, he said I was doing "fairly well" for my age.

A little concerned about that comment, I couldn't resist asking
him, "Do you think I'll live to be 80?"

He asked, "Do you smoke tobacco, or drink beer or wine?"

"Oh no," I replied. "I'm not doing drugs, either!"

Then he asked, "Do you eat rib-eye steaks and barbecued ribs?"

I said, "No, my former doctor said that all red meat is very
    unhealthy!"

"Do you spend a lot of time in the sun, like playing golf, sailing,
    hiking, or bicycling?"

    "No, I don't," I said.

He asked, "Do you gamble, drive fast cars, or have a lot of sex?"

"No," I said. "I don't do any of those things."

He looked at me and said, "Then, why the heck do you want to live
    another 20 years?"
    ------------
Best wishes to my friends & colleagues on this special day - we all
have a lot to be thankful for. Cheers! Troy

Subject: FW: Reuters - Obama to meet Gore to discuss energy, climate
    troyhelming

    Monday, Dec 08, 2008 10:43PM UTC

    By Deborah Charles

CHICAGO (Reuters) - President-elect Barack Obama will meet Nobel laureate
and former Vice President Al Gore in Chicago on Tuesday to discuss energy
and climate change, Obama's office said.

Gore, who ran for president in 2000 against George W. Bush and lost, will
meet Obama and Vice President-elect Joe Biden to discuss how energy and
climate policies "can stimulate the economy and create jobs," a statement
    from Obama's office said.

Obama is in the process of narrowing down picks for top energy and
environment cabinet posts and has signaled that both will be major policy
    priorities for his administration.

Gore has indicated he is not interested in a position of climate "czar" or
    any cabinet post.

But Gore, who starred in the Oscar-winning documentary "An Inconvenient
Truth" and won the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize for his work to combat rising
temperatures and boost awareness of climate change, will likely have a lot
of suggestions for Obama about how energy policies can help stimulate the
    economy.

Just two days after Obama won the November 4 election, Gore's Alliance for
Climate Protection rolled out a media campaign to push for immediate
investments in energy efficiency, renewable power generation like wind and
solar technology and the creation of a unified national power grid.

Gore and his group are in line with most U.S. environmental groups, which
believe the Obama administration has a chance to stem global warming after
what many see as stalling by President Bush's administration.

Obama, who takes over from Bush on January 20, has made it clear his White
House would break from his predecessor on climate change and other
    environmental policy issues.

During this year's presidential election campaign, Obama pledged if he were
elected he would make Gore a major player on the topic of climate change.

Obama has promised to increase U.S. use of renewable energy sources
dramatically and reduce dependence on foreign suppliers of oil.

He has just begun to lay out his plans for a massive recovery plan to help
stimulate the U.S. economy and create about 2.5 million jobs.

The first policy he mentioned in a radio address spelling out his top
priorities was that his administration would launch a massive effort to make
    public buildings energy efficient.

"Our government now pays the highest energy bill in the world. We need to
change that," he said on Saturday.

"We need to upgrade our federal buildings by replacing old heating systems
and installing efficient light bulbs. That won't just save you, the American
taxpayer, billions of dollars each year. It will put people back to work."

    Friends -

Well, we're still here, kind of.  :)  Krystal Planet has a free gift for any former (or current) customer or distributor.  Please review the updates below:

    1. Krystal Planet is still in business, but has no active employees.   Unpaid volunteers work for the company now.
    2. With Obama entering office in a few weeks, 2009 & beyond will be exciting for renewable energy.
    3. KP still has distribution agreements with product suppliers.  As a former KP customer, you can buy at KP's cost plus S&H if you wish: portable infrared furnace ($599 retail, buy for $338 plus S&H), tankless water heaters ($238 & up depending on model), solar shingles, various wind turbines, etc.  http://www.krystal-planet.com/prodserv.asp Questions?  Email jcrooker@...
    4. Like the other former staff, I have a full-time job elsewhere (I work for an industrial biodiesel equipment supplier).  I am still pursuing my dream of clean power, and will never give up!  After 5 years of working for next to nothing from KP/KE, I had to take a paying job to provide for my family.  I've been humbled enough to learn that I should stick to what I do best: building a sales team / downline.
    5. Recession = Opportunity.  The current economy has led me to seek, for the 1st time since KP, a solid network marketing company to join.  As you probably know, I've been very successful building large 'downlines' in network marketing prior to KP.  I now believe the best way to achieve the Freedom Plan is to make enough money myself to begin personally financing clean energy projects myself.  I've found the perfect company for that goal: a solid well managed start-up backed by $300 Million, a 30-year old public billion-dollar company, and 9 patents on their life-changing products.  I've already helped 3 people qualify for a luxury car paid for by the company. I'm building it fast and am looking to help 3 more people get the luxury car (plus residual income of $3,000/mo+) by March 31st.  If you're looking for a secure addtl income source, let me know and I'll send info.  I helped 22 people make over $10,000/mo in the past, and I'm doing it again.  I'd be honored to work with & help anyone who was affiliated with Krystal Planet to achieve that goal.  Together, we can still change the world: if I help you reach your goals, it can help me develop the Freedom Plan.
    6. Krystal Planet is making plans to be recapitalized in 2009.  Obama clean energy initiatives are expected to help organizations like KP.  Once funded, KP plans to offer some exciting new programs, including on-site solar & wind system "No Money Down" rentals.  Let us know if you want more info.  Note: KP does not plan to resurrect its network marketing compensation structure, but will have commission-only direct sales opportunities.

FREE GIFT: ANY former (or current) KP customer gets your choice of one of the following...
    1. A free 30-minute consultation with Troy Helming by phone, where you can 'pick my brain' regarding how to make your home or business more energy efficient & save money.  I charge $115/hour as a consultant to many companies & high-net-worth individuals to do this kind of work on a regular basis.  I'm willing to offer 30 minutes free to you as my way of thanking you for your support of KP.  It's the least I can do.
    2. A free 30-minute wellness interview / consultation with Troy Helming by phone using proprietary consumer health software I have access to.  For those who don't know, I've learned a great deal over the last 20 years from my mother's fight against cancer using non-conventional wellness techniques, I've studied under natural healers, attended wellness seminars & read many books on the subject.  I'm not a health-care practitioner but I'm confident I can pass on enough tips & knowledge that you can quickly improve your energy, mood, body fat % and immune function.

Whether you accept the gift offer or not, I wish you the best in 2009.  Cheers!
