Does anyone have contact info for the owner of that album? Those 70s
era CR pics NEED to find their way to the CRHS archives.

2 additional points in the original post:

NS wasn't created until 1982.
NS tried to get CR in the mid eighties but Stanley Crane was able to keep CR
whole.

<<<<<<<<As we all know how Conrail was broken up but a question has risen to
the top now as I look back as a former shareholder of Conrail. How long did
Norfolk Southern had the knowledge of breaking Conrail since 1976. Then why
didnt Bush administration stop it? And questions just keep rising from the
first question. Think about and let me know what you think
folks.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

As was stated earlier, unless you mean Bush the Elder, the Bush issue is
moot… and I couldn’t stand either Bush. LOL

The other issue I see is the presupposition that government has the
authority to intervene in a business deal that does not harm the public. I
despise the break-up of CR, but I also despise big government telling a
business how to act and behave if they have not violated any law or ethic.

The real problem was not lack of civil government, but human weakness which
government can never fix. According to that book “The Men Who Loved Trains”
and its author, the problem was Snow had grand visions and needed a feather
in his cap - A successful CR merger was it. However, Snow and Levan were
naïve and didn’t think NS would fight. When Snow’s ‘grand vision’ was in
danger of failing, he screwed Levan and CR and dealt with NS behind CR’s
back. Levan was notified of the secret NS/CSX meeting to split CR after the
fact via an impersonal phone call from Snow. Snow didn’t even have the balls
to meet face to face.

A tragedy indeed… but lack of government is not the problem. Actually, if
anything the lust of government indirectly caused it… The author of the book
says Snow needed a ‘grand deal’ on his resume so as to impress the big
shots
because he wanted a coveted cabinet post in DC… he got it – Treasurery
secty. His name is on your 2001-2003 dollar bills because he has a great
feather in his cap – a successful merger.

Snow is the scum, but Levan should have known better to trust him so much.
When Levan gave his speech at the CRHS banquet, he admitted he was snookered
and should have never trusted Snow.

Friends,

I have a 1984 track chart of the Central Region of the Pittsburgh Division.

I just a a few questions about a few abbreviations for tracks on this chart.

What does NCS stand for? It's a siding, I know.

Also, I am looking at the charts for the Panhandle line, which at the time of
this chart's publishing date had been downgraded to single track. The main track
is numbered 007 and the siding is marked SDG Is there a significance here with
the 007?

Thanks for any illumination!

Chuck

John;
I have several official railroad equipment registers.(10-74,7-81,10-83,&
4-95.)the 10-74 issue lists PC# 500000-500981 as G-38b with cu.ft. as 1048 which
is the normal cu.ft.for the G-38 low side ore jennies. the cu.ft. for the G-39's
is 1324 the same issue shows PRR G-38a # 15103 & 15387 with cu.ft. as 1345 which
would mean that these 2 had their sides extended. in the issues with CR listings
they show CR #502432-502920 as G38-G38b with cu.ft. as 1048 for the low side
cars
and CR #502524 is NOT listed seperately, which would be the case if it had a
different cu.ft. than the rest of the class.but photos of individual cars do not
lie. Butch Curll

Fairly certain I've come across photos from the Emporium, PA area on George
Elwood's excellent site:  http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/ .
Unfortunately this site isn't currently set up to "search images by
location".  The only thing you can do there is go through ALL of the images
under the sub-links for Pennsylvania RR, Penn Central, and Conrail.

Yes that's gonna take a considerable amount of time, but I'm quite certain I had
come across some in there while doing my own random searching.

From your post it looks like you've already gone through all the other "railroad
image" sites I might have suggested.

Hope this helps.    Mark

Gert,

A few that I remember from the powder river coal trains I used to see on the
Chicago line from the mid 90's: DEEX, DETX, GEEX, WEPX, NORX, and once I seen an
empty train of brand new UP Coalporters(or whatever coal gon they build in
Johnstown(PA) go thru Waterloo as well. And yes, I even seen BN and BNSF cars in
those UDM trains. I've also seen them use those cars Walthers or Athearn sells
that are all black and have NYC reporting marks as well('course those are only
applicable to the mid 98-mid 99 period). Hope these helped.

even worse UP cars in my Conrail train.
