approximate value of a sealed copy of Penn Central Power by Robert J. Yanosey?

(No it is NOT for sale!)

Thanks in advance!

Heard this morning that Bob Malinoski Erie,EL,Conrail employee and a
great RR photographer Passed away. Below is the formal Obituary

Robert R. Malinoski of Camp Hill, passed away at Golden Living West
on
Tuesday, September 16, 2008.
He was born in Ashland, PA on January 3, 1924, the son of the late
John
and Dee Pulaski Malinoski.
He attended schools in Shamokin, PA, New York City (now the site of
Lincoln Center) and special courses at the American University in
Washington, DC.
He entered the U.S. Army, assigned to the Army Air Corps, and was a
trained radio operator on B29's and saw more than 30 combat missions
in
the Pacific Theatre. He became the recipient of the Air Medal with
Oak
Leaf Clusters and the Distinguished Flying Cross. After moving to New
York
City to work as a railroad conductor, his photography career began at
Grand Central Station and Penn Station. The 5 passenger terminals on
the
New Jersey side were sheer utopia. This interest in photography led
to him
becoming a rail photographer, exhibiting in national and rail
magazines,
plus lectures, for more than 50 years and the publishing of two
books:
First book in color in 1991: "A Golden Decade of Trains: The 1950's,
covering over 50 different roads during this time period. A second
book in
color was published in 2001: "Trackside Around New York City-1953-
1968".
In 2002, he was honored by the PA R.R. Tech. & Historical Society,
with
Mayor Reed declaring May 5, 2002, as "Bob Malinoski Day" in
Harrisburg.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ann; his stepmother, Ann Malinoski
of
Scranton; and in-laws, Mary Varano, Susan Bird, Michael Varano, and
Anthony P. Varano.
He was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Camp Hill,
where a
viewing will be held on Friday, September 19, 2008 from 10-11 a.m.,
preceding the Funeral Mass, which will be held at 11 a.m., also at
the
church, with Father Paul Helwig officiating. Private interment will
be at
Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Mechanicsburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the
Harrisburg Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society,
637 Walnut Street,
Harrisburg, PA 17101-1924.

If this dude is the same guy I'm thinking of, he was crazy in his old age!!! :)
I saw him, at no less than 70 (although probably 75+) years of age, scale a tree
& shoot photos from it.

We all can only hope to be so limber, energetic & ambitious at that age.

Anyone who might be able to give me the scoop on some late 80's Conrail
maintenance date re-stencils?

  ( CR-AB 9-88) or (CR FS 8-89)

...is the 'AB' Albany?

For the life of me, can't figure out the 'FS', 'HP' or the 'BL'
locations either.

thanks in advance

Hey, folks;

As I told Carolina Rails early this morning, the L&C has repainted their GP38-2
#3819 in their new corporate paint scheme. Here is the first shot --

http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=254030&nseq=1

I'm told that decals for the long hood are coming and will be placed when they
arrive. Click on LC 3819 to see her before the new paint.

So this is #2 now, did they ever apply decals to the first one? Please tell me
there using the Springmaid logo, that's super classic for this operation.

I guess if you want to be technical about it, this is the second repaint. The
first one, the 3820, got the new paint before coming on line. As of now, neither
have the Springmaid logo.
I'm not sure if it will be included on the GPs or not. My first hunch is no.
They've been painting over the Springmaids on the 60 foot box cars lately. On
the other hand, the web site still has Mrs. Springmaid all over it. It's going
to be interesting to see. I hope that at the least they'll use the same font as
the lettering on the end cabs.

So this is #2 now, did they ever apply decals to the first one? Please tell me
there using the Springmaid logo, that's super classic for this operation.

Hey, folks;

As I told Carolina Rails early this morning, the L&C has repainted their GP38-2
#3819 in their new corporate paint scheme. Here is the first shot --

I'm told that decals for the long hood are coming and will be placed when they
arrive. Click on LC 3819 to see her before the new paint.

Folks;

If you'll indulge me, I have two more new L&C shots. First up, we see one of two
SW900s bought new by the L&C way back in 1965. Until 1983 or so, two SW900s ran
the entire line by themselves. In the 90s, they started collecting other end
cabs until they began leasing, then buying, GPs.

So her we see EMD SW900 #90 between two slices of GMTX, an odd lash-up, working
the oil cans in East Chester..

Next up is another shot of newly repainted GP38-2 #3819. They've left the train
on the main line so they could switch a few cars around the make shift transfer
facility in Lancaster.

All in all, a welcome change to see the ex-Con in new garb after five years on
the L&C.

Any reason why exactly? I can't imagine that interchange business with ESPN has
picked up...?

Hello All,

I know that there was a flurry of emails when GG1 4935 was moved from Strasburg
to Washington Union Station for the Centennial celebration.  Click on the link

Hi all,

Below is a link to some of my photos from the WUS Centennial.  I'd like to thank
everyone who played a part in making this event a success including the private
equipment owners, my Amtrak employees in Washington, the FRA, the freight
railroads who allowed us to bring this equipment to the display and the
volunteers who manned the event on Saturday and Sunday, just to name just a few
of the hundreds of people it took to make this event possible.  Seeing
everything positioned in the station and the thousands of people who came to
view it made it all very worthwhile.  After all, what good is a station without
the trains?

If you could get all the road numbers off those that would be great.

NS 2943, the Spirit of Conrail, has been plucked from the deadline at
Juniata.

CSXT 4595 has been repainted, leaving two blue 80MAC's left on CSX, soon to
be one. 4597 will be the last blue 80MAC on CSX, as 4601 is at the shop
now.

Norfolk Southern and the Conrail Historical Society put forth an
extremely unique experience for our 2008 Convention attendees today as
TWO SD80MAC's in full Conrail Dress Blue, as well as THREE SD40-2's in
full Conrail Dress Blue were positioned for us at South Fork, PA. A
total of SIX SD80MAC's were represented at South Fork for viewing. We
were able to walk the property as well as tour the cabs of these
beautiful locomotives, several of which were hand cleaned the day
before by the employees at South Fork. Though the weather on the
mountain at times was difficult, we have been blessed to have such an
experience given to us by Norfolk Southern. I'd love to talk and upload
pictures for everyone, but right now I need to finish up prep work
before everyone gets back for the banquet this evening!
