Is it true that Conrail's SD70 standard cabs have
their Q-fans painted black? I have seen photos of
Overland SD70's with them painted black, and in some
prototype photos they APPEAR black, but the shots I have
seen are all ground shots, and there is very limited
detail. Can anyone confirm this coloration of the fans?
Are all 24 units this way, or only a
handful?

Also, I noticed CR 2558 has a 3-chyme air horn. Whats

I don't rilly reply much to some on the E-Mails
but do take the time to read them. I am starting to
see a pattern here something that Conrail did during
the late 70's threw the early 80. I see groups of the
same locomotive type being assigned here and there is
NS trying to copy the history books?? it seems like
a patteren all the SD80's are in one spot, all the
B36-7's are in one spot all the GP15's in one spot and so
forth. Could this bee that there placeing them to a back

finding them the best area for them to work?

This

As the B36-7 units continue to be filtered
through the Enola shops 2 by 2, the Conrail B23-7 #1944
(PRR 4044) unit that was severely damaged by a free
end fire (see post 435) is slated to be released from
the shops by March 1, 2002. Though work is performed
around the clock, the tentative release date is now
expected to be pushed back sometime into
April.

~Kris

It has been said in other railfan communities
that all or a portion of the Conrail 3300 fleet is
scheduled for retirement after their lease expires this
coming March and April (not confirmed) Though none of
these rumors have been confirmed, it does cause
speculation as many have questioned its' reasoning. With the
recent losses of SD50's, B36-7's, B23-7's, C30-7's and
others since Day 1, what will soon be left in local and
yard service?

~Kris

2792 and 2795 are both ex-CR units. This past
Friday night I was out railfanning and spotted CSX 2810
and 1174 (ex-CR GP38-2/ex-SBD MP15AC) The GP38-2 was
just out of the paint shop last week, and you could
tell...not 1 speck of dirt or road dust whatsoever on the
whole engine, even the trucks/fuel tank. Funny thing
is, the engine is not painted in the new scheme, but
rather the Bright Future paint, with white roof. 1174
was also in Bright Future, but somewhat fading on the
hood section. Spotted at Abrams Yard (NS
yard)
-Scott, Philly PA

sucks! Lately I've been only getting like 10 or 12 hours
off at most in between trips. Between sleeping and
eating there's hardly enough time just for the gf & I!
Add to that I always end up with a job that puts me

daylight hours. Regardless, as soon as I get the next
