Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) in Chennai seems to be harnessing a
good way to take people for a good ride. For the general public all the 'Low
Floor Deluxe', 'Long Distance Air Buses' till Sri Perumbudur and Mamallapuram
can be attractive.
But behind the scenes, they really deploy a very base mean politics of
converting all white - board buses to yellow - board LSS (Limited Stop
Services). This way, inspite of all 'Letters to the Editor' and emails to
Pallavan House, Chennai seems to be falling in deaf years.
Particularly this hot summer, old age people are forced to walk to long
distances since white board (ordinary) buses have gone sparse now. I have two
distinct routes where this rampant conversion, which is anti-public-welfare
measure/ploy has been rolled out by MTC.
1) Rajakilpakkam (junction of Balaji Nagar to Velacherry Tambaram) which was
served by 51S now, has been withdrawn as LSS from Ordinary.
2) Most of the routes en route Adayar to Guindy (which used to stop at Raj
Bhavan) are now converted as LSS. So the only stop for these buses would be
either at Anna University or Guindy which are respectively 1 km or 2 Kms drive
from the intended bus stop.
Is MTC indirectly trying to support Autowallas and make the public to pay out of
thier nose?
