And thank you, Lemony Snicket, for the headline. :)

For most people these days, keeping up with the daily onslaught of email is a major challenge. In fact, experts estimate that e-mail has added an extra 1.23 hours to the average person’s workday.
Although many business leaders are obsessed with the concept of branding, few really understand what it means to develop a successful brand. Here's what it really takes.

We have 11 lunches in 2010 (as we skip Dec) and we need discussion topics.
Our first 3 will be on Social Media that comes up seemingly at all of our lunches, so we'll devote full-time to: Twitter, Facebook, and Linked-In (not necessarily in that order).
That leaves 8 more to fill.
Any new topics you want to explore? Any topic repeats you'd like to do?
PS I believe we have found our permanent home, I'm just awaiting the final room assignment before I announce it as "official."
We will be brown bagging it individually OR we can do potluck OR if someone wants to cater/sponsor the lunch, we can do that too.
Thoughts?

If you're anywhere near Ellicott City, MD, this coming weekend, you can help the Kiwanis Club support its youth programs and scholarships by attending a pancake breakfast this Saturday, Nov. 7. The breakfast will feature a craft fair. And guess who'll be there selling and signing copies of IDENTITY CRISIS until 11:00 a.m.? :)

I've been with the group for a while, but figured I'd tell any newcomers a bit about myself.
I'm a freelance writer/researcher and fiction author. Most of my freelance work has been writing assignments (though I've done some legal research for law firms and legal publishers). I've written articles and book reviews for magazines (both consumer and trade/professional) and local newspapers. I've also written a variety of marketing and promotional materials for businesses, non-profits and professional associations. I've written a grant application for a non-profit, and a script for a fundraising video, along with marketing collateral for the fundraiser.
My fiction includes one hardboiled mystery novel, IDENTITY CRISIS, issued through a POD press, and two published short stories--one in an anthology called CHESAPEAKE CRIMES, and the other in The Back Alley, an e-zine at http://BackAlleyWebzine.com. I'll have a third short story coming out in CHESAPEAKE CRIMES 4 in March 2010.
I have other novels and short stories that are written or in progress. So, if anyone knows an agent or publisher, I'm still looking . . . :)
Best wishes, Debbi

I just joined the list serve and would like to introduce myself. I'm a friend of Kathy Jentz of Washington Gardener Magazine. I live in NW DC close to the Takoma metro and work independently as a home & office organizer, working throughout the metro area at residences and small offices.
My experience includes what I call 'all rooms, all stuff', including paper management, clothes, closets, kitchens, etc., providing a single organizer or team of organizers as needed for one-time service, ongoing projects, followup services, and periodic 'tune-ups' as needed. All services are confidential, personalized, and nonjudgmental!
Take a look at my website at www.just-that-simple.net to learn more about my organizing philosophy and services. I do love organizing and believe that everyone should be able to find the things they need (and put them away again), meet deadlines, welcome visitors without stress or embarrassment, and feel relaxed and productive whether at home or at work.
I look forward to meeting you all at Vicino on Nov 20th. Be in touch before then if you'd like to ask questions about organizing needs (for yourself or your clients).
Sincerely,

Dan - I am forwarding this to a local Silver Spring group of independents that meet monthly; you may remember a couple of years ago, Deana putting it out on the List should someone in the community care to join them for lunch. There are a number of people who do this sort of work.
I am looking for recommendations for a Graphic Designer to help with Logo Design and overall Corporate Identity Design -
If you have someone you would like to recommend, you can email me directly at dspahr@gmail. com
The current format has been great and I would like to see it continue. If there is enough interest it would be nice to have an additional opportunity for sharing experiences. Happy to help organize if Susan and others want to try out a "sub" group. Thanks.

Our Nov 20 lunch at Vicino's on great biz books is the last one scheduled for the year.
We then have Dec off.
I'm looking for direction for next year's lunch bunch schedule -- what works, what doesn't, etc..
We can incorporate Susan's suggestions or create sub-groups or keep on as is or go a totally new different way.
Your thoughts are welcome.

Subject: Re: [Creative-SSLunchBu nch] Self-Employed Support Group?
Hello,
I have been thinking of starting such a group for the neighborhood here so your thought is a welcome one. Please let me know if you decide on a time and place to try out this idea for the lunch bunch group.
Hey, everyone. I'm loving this group and getting to know you all better and am wondering if it's time for the Lunch Bunch to give birth?
Imagine another regular get-together that's more of a traditional support group for work issues we're having, where we spend time talking about whatever's on top for each person, not one chosen topic for everyone.
Also, we'd meet where we can all sit together and be heard - a more support-group- like space like a living room or maybe a coffee shop or restaurant IF it's not at a busy time for them.
I know I'll still be joining the larger group for lunches, but I could sure use a Self-Employed Support Group, in addition, esp if it's stocked with folks like y'all who have so much to teach me.
If you're interested just write me directly at Susan@Sustainable- Gardening. com adn we can chit-chat logistics among ourselves, offline.
Sincerely,
Kathy Jentz

Hello,
I have been thinking of starting such a group for the neighborhood here so your thought is a welcome one. Please let me know if you decide on a time and place to try out this idea for the lunch bunch group.
Hey, everyone. I'm loving this group and getting to know you all better and am wondering if it's time for the Lunch Bunch to give birth?
