Re: [DSR-2-DOT] Re: Detroit police to patrol city buses
Now that Warren Evans is police chief for Detroit, it just may last, after all, he was the one in charge of Wayne County Deputies.

Time will tell how long they last at this.

I'm glad to hear that positive progress report D Grooms, but I also hope that a uniformed staff is also on the job as well. IMO, a visible uniformed police presence working together along-side a undercover unit better serves as a deterrent. You need that visible police presence.
However, keep in mind, as I mentioned in previous posts, I expected them to do a bang-up job at the start because they (or better yet, the DPOA union) do have a point to prove. The real proof will come six months or more down the road. BTW, I did have one of your fellow SSIs (road supervisors) tell me of their first experience with DPD, with mixed results. The unit did arrive in a timely manner but they weren't as gung-ho (or better, enthusiastic) as the WC sheriffs were in trying to apprehend a suspect who had fled the scene.
BTW, here's my personal experience so far. By this time along after Wayne County had taken over the unit, the sheriff deputies on duty during my shift had already come by the terminal and introduced themselves to us. After 5 days I have yet to meet one of the DPD officers. But it's still early, we'll see what happens.
The Detroit Police are way understaffed and for them to take on another job of policing DOT coaches does not bode well for the coach operators or the public. ...

I agree with you Mike. This is going to be a mess. Check this out, eventually they will come up with some excuse to stop having them on the busses just as last...
