Adriana,

Run from your BIN folder a register to RADIANCE, clicking twice on
file ray_reg.reg included during the instalation

I think that will be enough to avoid this error.

Hi there,

An error message comes up everytime I run Radiance from Ecotect. Im
pretty sure its something to do with the registration. The error that
comes out is written below:

Invalid or absent registry key - HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Lawrence
Berkeley National Laboratory\Desktop Radiance

If anyone knows how to fix it, it would be much appreciated.

Cheers!

Hi All,

I a new user of Radiance and I'm having quite a few problems. I am
inputting from ecotect into radiance via the export icon.

I follow the steps as instructed, i set my analysis grid and set the
export to "Grid Pt Analysis". The file is exported as a .pts file but
nothing is found inside the .dat file, hence when i try to import the
values back into ecotect, there is an error because there is no data.

Also, the files .oct and .amb files cannot be found when the
"calculating grid points" has been initialised. Hence the analysis is
exited.

The .rad, .rif, and .bat amd .pts files come out fine but the rest are
no where to be seen.

Help! Thanks :-)

Hi, I've been trying to get DR running through autocad2000i & everything's been working fine until I try to define the camera, whenever it says select objects, the whole model gets selected but the command can't be completed as it doesn't recognise the objects as having radiance attachments & deselects everything. I've checked that all the materials are attached properly, the reference grid has been defined, but i am eventually unable to select the objects. does the number of objects have anything to do with it? is there anything else I can do to fix it? please let me know. Jingtao,
Adeline is a cut-down version of Radiance. Use Radiance.

Hi Mubin,

Development for DR stopped around ACAD2000, so if you don't have it
and you can't find it, then you're pretty out of luck.

Have you heard of these folks?
http://luminance.londonmet.ac.uk/learnix/

Linux on a cdrom, runs on windows, enables you to run Radiance.
I have to admit that I haven't tried it myself, but I have seen the
developers' demonstrations and it looks very promising. And, more
likely they will be able to help you if you run into problems.

Good luck,

Judy

whenever I try running on it, it doesnt show any Radiance Menu in

failed, maybe I did something wrong and now CYGWIN is installed in my

Right now I am in distress and really really really need a huge favor

Hi, everyone,

I want to use s suitable tool for atrium daylighting simalation.
The Radiance might be the optimal, while I also find the Adeline which
integrates the Radince. If the Adeline has the more powerful functions
than Radiance? the differences for the same daylight simulation?

I have checked the brochure of Adeline, but it can be intalled in the
WIN95 and WIN2000, if the WINXP can be suitable?

Thank you very much.

Hi Everyone,

I am doing a daylighting analysis for an office building and I am
interested in doing a glare analysis.

1. Which simulation mode is better for glare analysis,Luminance or

2.Using the glare and findglare scripts,I got the following results:

BEGIN indirect illuminance

END indirect illuminance

What does it imply? I went through the Radiance man. but only got
more confused! Please can anyone explain it in plain english?

3.Also since there is no xglaresrc in Desktop Radiance or is there?
Please how does one plot the above data on the .pic image?

4.Please is there other simpler methods of doing a glare anlysis
with Radiance files with Evalglare or any other external software?

Thanks everyone and looking forward to hearing from you!

Hi,

I had similar problems, but found if I save the file under a new name
before attempting any simulations it works.

Also, I had "strange" simulations because I positioned the camera on
the ground (ie an elevation of zero). Try setting the elevation of
the camera to 1 or 2m.

Hope this helps. No guarantees though, as I am fairly new to this
game too.

The current version of Revit incorporates AccuRender, which I don't
think is based on Radiance. If Autodesk provides any documentation of
AccuRender, I have not so far seen it. Eventually this component will
probably be replaced by Autodesk VIZ (formerly Lightscape) integration.

Dear Kristina,
I appreciate the response.
I am currently checking if my insitution has an old copy of AutoCAD 2000
(or 2000i) around.
It is too bad that this was not maintained.
I had checked into the 'cygwyn' version, and it seemed to be a little
complex to getting set up. Especially for myself who has very limited
Unix type experience, and my AutoCAD skills are very rusty (I worked with
it in the early to mid 1990's but not much since).

Thanks again,
Tom Lawrence

I will do this and thank you. This pretty much confirmed what I suspected.

Hi,
Desktop Radiance works only with AutoCAD2000 and R14.
The second problem is that it haven't been updated for a few years.
Maybe the solution is to sue other verisons of radiance which also work
on Windows.
Look at the site www.radiance-online.org On their mailing lists there is
currently the discussion about Radiance under Windows, and you also have
a links to the other Radiance sites.

Hope it helps,
Marija

I have recently installed Desktop Radiance on my computer.  When I try to run Radiance, it correctly starts up my AutoCAD (actually the Architectural Desktop).  However, it appears that Desktop Radiance is not starting up at the same time.  As I began to follow the Tutorial and start a new drawing, the “Desktop Radiance Preferences dialog box” does not appear.  Nor do I see how to select the “Radiance MaterialsAttach”, which is the next step in the tutorial.
