Description

This group is for the discussion of train dispatching, its principles, history, techniques, practices, related operational principles and is intended for those who are at least somewhat familiar with railroads, operating rules, signaling, and functions of a train dispatcher under any kind of North American control (CTC, ABS, MBS, TT&TO, dark (unsignaled) territories, etc). Comparisons between TWC and DTC amongst others are also welcome here. The group will also host Q&A for all rules students on NA roads.

Despite this group's subtitle -- Train Dispatching 201 -- It will accept rules students from all levels and higher as well as Higher classes in the 200 realm. Perhaps bringing other similar groups focused on RR rule books under one umbrella / group. Questions and Answers regarding the above, are also welcome. At the outset, the group was intended to be restricted to rules students with lots of good RR experience under two or more different sets of operating rules, but lack off activity from these guys required it be opened up to other rules students too, which it now is.

The DR opposite here, cy'd at Castlegar ("CG") on the CPR BC District's Kootenay Division is the most verbose meet order I've ever seen and would've been much shorter if I was involved in its issuance. Even though the practice under the applicable 1962 UCOR was to instruct which train takes siding (if not the inferior train); at the time I didn't know abt the 1950 & 1968 UCOR variations under which specifying which train holds main track is std, and thus could be used anywhere in a pinch, like a meet someplace where there's no siding listed. Anyone here wishing to attempt abbreviating the order to conform with the brevity clause of Rule 201 may comment, critique, and show a better result. Indeed they're encouraged to make such attempts.

PDF/JPG copies of the pertinent subdivision where this DR issued and appl'd are available upon request.
