Subject: [EighthDistrictQues] Bro. Bonnie G. Banks - Omega Chapter
Brothers,
It is great sadness that I inform you of the passing of Bro. Bonnie Banks of Eta Alpha in Jefferson City, Mo.
Bro. Banks made the transition this morning. He had experienced a number of health related issues in recent years; however, he attended the Mid-Year conference in Kansas City last month as well as the Grand Conclave in Birmingham where he accompanied Bro. Lucius Jones.
Bro. Banks was initiated into the Fraternity through Eta Sigma Chapter on Nov. 19, 1972. He was life member No. 2331 and was active in Eta Alpha chapter. I saw him on Nov. 15 when Bro. Scott and I attended Eta Alpha's Achievement Week dinner. Bro. Banks was in great spirits and even joked with the brothers on where he should stand for a group photo.
A lasting testimony of true friendship was evident in how Bro. Hans Overton took care of Bro. Banks. Bro. Overton had gone this morning to check on Bro. Banks. We should all strive to display this level of unselfish living and being our brother's keeper.
No funeral arrangements have been made, but once we get more details, we will pass them along.

This is something I received last year from Bro. Carl A. Blunt that I think remains appropriate.
"Today, you probably have been getting many calls, text messages and emails from brothers all over the globe, extolling the fact that today is Founders' Day. But please take a moment to seriously reflect on the courage and vision the Founders displayed and the obstacles they overcame in establishing the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. The commitment to select the "leaders of the campus leaders" and require them to go back to their communities to fight injustice and discrimination is a legacy that we cannot forget, and must carry on. Let's not reduce today to just "Happy" Founders' Day. It is much, much more!"
I encourage each of you to spend some time today and pick the Dreer or Gill history books and read and then re-read how Omega was born.
 And lastly.....
“First build Omega for the benefit of Omega men - make the Fraternity worth something to itself and
then use its influence and resources to help humanity, not one week, but fifty-two weeks in a year.
