Topics pertaining to the Espee and/or scale modeling of its equipment, operations, practices, and history are relevant provided they relate to the period prior to September 1996, when SP was purchased by Union Pacific Corporation and ceased existence as a separate operating entity.
 
Rio Grande Industries, aka "Denver & Rio Grande Western", purchased the Southern Pacific in 1988, retaining SP's name for its "new" corporate identity. Discussion of the Rio Grande as it relates to the SP between 1988 and 1996 is therefore on-topic for this list.
