Welcome to the Historic Sierra Railway Discussion Group This bulletin board is dedicated to the history of the Sierra Railway and the preservation and operations at Railtown 1897 State Historic Park.
Sierra Fans, modelers, historians and the like are invited to ask questions, provide answers, debate history, impart historical facts, observations, and railroad lore primarily from the steam era, and possibly as far as the end of the Silverfoot era.
Inevitably, discussions of the current Sierra Railroad freight service and the Golden Sunset/Dinner Train will find their way on to the board. While all comers are welcome, we’d like to stay as close to the mission of the group as possible.
The usual ethics apply: stay on topic, edit the original messages when replying, no personal insults or attacks, no flaming, take it off board-if you feel the need to “clarify a point” with someone specific.
Your moderator/owner is a long time Sierra fan, former docent at Railtown 1897 and one-time employee of the Sierra Railroad. However this discussion board is not officially associated with either Railtown 1897 State Historic Park or the Sierra Railroad Company of California and does not speak for the management of either entity.
Like all good discussion forums I would encourage a spirit of commraderie here ...”like sitting around with a bunch of your friends, talking about your favorite railroad over a few beers”
So climb aboard, learn, teach and enjoy the discussion of California’s Golden Shortline.
