The monthly meeting of the Houston Investors Association will take place Saturday, August 13, 2011 at University Center on University of Houston Campus, Houston, TX. The main meeting will feature

Jason Shade (Textingtrades.com):
Some Subtle Ways to Beat the Market

Tips and ideas from my 12 point contrarian momentum system:

  • differences between trader and investor mentality — time frame, disciplines and buying and selling strategy
  • investor sentiment and how to make it work in your favor — (analysts and short interest)
  • major investment trends/ strategies on the horizon (dropping some stock symbols and ideas to put on the radar screen for buying and selling)

Jason Lee Shade is an honors graduate from Bucknell University. Mr. Shade gained first hand Wall Street experience while serving as an investor relations consultant for Gregory/FCA a small boutique firm in Ardmore, Pennsylvania during the Internet boom of the late 1990s. Mr. Shade became a registered investment advisor in 2007 putting his 12 years of market experience to work in managing his own fund — ETRX Fund from 2007 to 2009. In August, 2009, Mr. Shade launched an innovative stock information service — TextingTrades where he offered his hedge fund experience in the form of stock ideas and recommendations to traders and investors.

Most of his stock recommendations are generated from his proprietary "12 Point System". His strategy factors in several key areas including technical analysis, insider buying and market sentiment indicators to offer investors a "bottom up" approach to buying and selling individual stocks. Mr. Shade currently resides on the lake in Montgomery, Texas.

FEATURED PRESENTATION:

Tom McClellan – McClellan Reports

Topic: Predicting the future and Confirming the Predictions using breath indicators and Liquidity Waves

150

Sherman and Marian's son Tom McClellan has done extensive analytical spreadsheet development for the stock and commodities markets, including the synthesizing of the four-year Presidential Cycle Pattern. He has fine tuned the rules for interrelationships between financial markets to provide leading indications for important market and economic data.

Tom is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point where he studied aerospace engineering, and he served as an Army helicopter pilot for 11 years. He began his own study of market technical analysis while still in the Army, and discovered ways to expand the use of his parents' indicators to forecast future market turning points. Tom views the movements of prices in the financial market through the eyes of an engineer, which allows him to focus on what the data really say rather than interpreting events according to the same "conventional wisdom" used by other analysts. In 1993, he left the Army to join his father in pursuing a new career doing this type of analysis. Tom and Sherman spent the next 2 years refining their analysis techniques and laying groundwork.

In April 1995 they launched their newsletter, The McClellan Market Report, an 8 page report covering the stock, bond, and gold markets, which is published twice a month. They utilize the unique indicators they have developed to present their view of the market's structure as well as their forecasts for future trend direction and the timing of turning points. A Daily Edition was added in February 1998 to give subscribers daily updates on their indicators and also provide market position indications for stocks, bonds and gold. Their subscribers range from individual investors to professional fund managers. Tom serves as editor of both publications, and runs the newsletter business from its location in Lakewood, WA.

You may not be able to control what the future holds, but you can learn to control how it impacts you. It's much like driving along a dark mountain road: Would you rather know what lies ahead or behind?

Attend This Meeting and Learn…

  • How to control risk in the rough times
  • How understanding demographics can help you protect your portfolio
  • How to identify long-term trends that can help achieve key financial objectives

HIA Members:

Al Robison has been the leader for the Stock Sig for many years. He has
notified the board that he needs to step down. The board would appreciate any
suggestion you might have as to a possible leader or co-leaders for the Stock
Sig. If we could get 2 people then they could share the responsibilities.
Guest speakers from time to time provides variety to the programming.

Here are some suggested ideas that the Stock Market SIG leader can use:

Leader of the discussion in the Stock Market SIG.
Give perspective of the current direction of the market (May quote sources of
market timing guru's).
Present equities recently purchased or is currently evaluating.
Solicit ideas from the audience on equity ideas and recent investments they have
made.
Present ideas in income producing equities such as MLPs, REITs, dividend stocks,
closed end funds, etc.
Present ideas on other equity investments such as growth stocks and IBD stocks.
Arrange for guest speakers to the SIG such as Jeff Friedberg and his group.

(Co-leader Alice Van Dyke will review the stock lists on FINVIZ from time to
time.)

Please email Jimmy Hixson any suggestions and come prepared to help the Board
find a Leader for the Stock Sig.

Sincerely,
HIA Board

Jimmy Hixson

Houston Investors Association Meeting, Saturday May 12, 2012

FEATURED PRESENTATION:

Bruce Robinson, "The Future Isn't What it Used to Be"

This famous quote, often attributed to Yogi Berra, is never more true than in today's markets. The last decade has seen huge changes in economic fundamentals and also the structure of markets. This presentation will focus on how those changes affect individual investors, including the problems that they pose and the opportunities that they create. We will look at some techniques that still work, some that don't, and some that require us, as investors, to adapt more quickly than ever. Recent experience, in particular, has shown that these changes have actually given individual investors certain advantage over money managers in an environment that often presents impediments. Some example trading systems will be shown in order to demonstrate this.http://houstoninvestors.com/wp/wp-includes/js/tinymce/plugins/wordpress/img/trans.gif

Bruce Robinson spent 25+ years in hi-tech, leading groups in product development and software R&D. Currently consults with several money managers on the development of trading systems, and also trades for his own accounts. Also, he is a frequent speaker at conferences such as NAAIM, and training seminars, and is a principal in two websites devoted to trading systems. He has spoken several times at the Houston Investors Association on trading systems development, technical analysis, the critical examination of conventional and commercial systems.
