A group primarily set up for people interested in the South Maitland Railway and Richmond Vale Railways and their associated mines, to discuss history, research, preservation/current topics, modelling, swap photos, give site/trip reports and reminise about the good old days.

Discussions of other coal railways (past and present) in the Hunter region are also welcome, as is any industry news that affects any of these lines. We would particularly like to hear from workers/researchers of these Hunter region mines!

The group welcomes former and current rail employees of any operator in the Hunter coalfields (esp SMR/RVR), historians specialising in the area, railfans with an interest and people involved in any mining preservation within the areas bounded by Awaba, Muswellbrook, Newcastle and Stratford.

This is a new group so things will be slow at first, but it is hope that it will grow into a interesting historical reference of the area and that it will entice many people with an interest to join together in discussion.
