Our ezne PR-e-Sense December issue will be on the theme 'Cartoons as Communication tools'.  We want to bring out the importance of cartoons in communication.   Mr Triambak Sharma, Editor of Cartoon Watch, Raipur is the Guest Editor. 

We are trying to identify some cartoons, which have raised controversies and changed the policies of the Government. For example, a cartoon in Ananda Vikatan (leading Tamil weekly) in 1987  angered politicians.  The speaker of the Tamilnadu Assembly passed a judgement on the spot and punished the Editor with  three months imprisonment.  The Editor was arrested.  The entire media in India and outside took up this issue.  Even BBC featured worldwide.  The shaken Government requested the speaker to withdraw the order.  The editor was released after three days in jail.  He filed a defamation case in the High Court and sought a token compensation of one thousand rupees.   The High Court passed judgement after 7 years ordering the Government to pay Rs.1000/- to the editor.  Even now, the Vikatan office displays the cheque as a mark of 'freedom of press'.  In this issue, we will be bringing out the original cartoon with the case study.

Similarly, you might have come across cartoons creating big news, forcing the govt. to change the policy.  It can be in any language.  We will be happy if you could send such detials,  with the contact details of the media.
