Correction on 2008 Capital Gains Rate   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #537 of 755 |
In a response to a reader who asked about the U.S. tax on currency
gains or losses, I mentioned that the maximum rate on long term gains
for 2008 would be zero per cent. I was a bit careless in how I
explained that. Here's a correction from a member of this group. Vern

-----------
I am a regular reader of your user group postings and appreciate the
information you provide. I noticed an error in the posting (about
capital gains) and so I thought I would let you know. You stated that
the maximum capital gains rate would be zero % in 2008, but that is
not correct. The Zero% rate is available for people who are otherwise
(but for the capital gain) in the 10% or 15% brackets. But for other
taxpayers, the maximum long-term capital gains rate remains at 15%
until 2011 (at least until Congress changes it again).
