---yomf,
its my understanding that when a federal holiday falls on a saturday, its
observed on the day before.if it falls on a sunday, its observed on the next
calendar day-monday. the state and local governments,as well as most private
companies usually follow the feds.
yes the p.o. closed at noon friday 7/3.my company was closed fri 7/3. dont know
about the banks but im pretty sure most were either closed or closed early.
why doesnt the rr run a "modified" schedule on those days? dont run a holiday
schedule, but add a few trains to the daily schedule.

(the legal public holiday for Independence Day), falls on a Saturday. For most
Federal employees, Friday, July 3, will be treated as a holiday for pay and

treated July 3 as a holiday. It seems the RR couldn't decide which of the two
days - July 3 or July 4 - they were treating as a holiday. It would also seem
that the day with premium pay for holiday work was July 4, so maybe to them,
July 4 was the holiday.
