I'm in the process of modeling a Black Diamond Streamline passenger train in 027
gauge. I need info on the lettering color for cars. I have color photos of the
engine and tender.

Railroad Excursion to Help the Hungry - PRESS RELEASE
Railroad Excursion to
Help the Hungry
Press Release — September
14th, 2009
Tickets for the very
special and unique Seashore Lines Ramble train being run on November
7th are selling fast and you should act fast if you would like to be
part of this great trip.
The train will be using historic Central Railroad of NJ and Lehigh Valley RR engines pulling vintage and fully restored coaches
built in 1950, a tavern lounge car
built in 1947 [ dining end | service end ] and a full parlorcar'Good Vibrations'. Capture
it all on film or digital at photo stops at Richland, Tuckahoe and
Woodbine where the Reading Railroad once crossed over the Pennsylvania
RR (The PRR line is now a paved walking and bike path.). Three
different photo stops provided during the day.
As a way to help feed the
hungry in South Jersey all passengers are encouraged to bring
non-perishable food items to the train, which will be donated to local
food banks in Ocean and Cape May counties.
The sponsors of the train believe that with the holidays just around
the corner it is up to us all to help feed those who are having trouble
in these trying times. So while you are out enjoying a day on the rails
with your family you can also be doing something good for someone else.
This unique train will depart
from the Tuckahoe railroad
station at 10 am, run north to Richland,
then south to Woodbine, and return to Tuckahoe about 4 pm. (From Garden
State Parkway exit 20 take Route 50 to County Route. 557, the station
is at the railroad crossing.)
At Tuckahoe the beautifully
restored Reading RR station, now a railroad museum, and the old switch tower will
be open for all to enjoy
(tower levers). Free admission to both! Also at Tuckahoe is a great variety of old locomotives and many oldpassengercars. Some of this equipment operates and some awaits restoration. Most are owned by the
United Railroad Historical
Society (URHS), who is sponsoring
these trains in conjunction with the West Jersey Chapter NRHS and the
Volunteer Railroaders Association.
The proceeds of the trip will
go to the URHS to assist in restoration of its collection of nearly 70
locomotives, passenger cars, freight cars, and work cars. So please
come out for this unique trip! You’ll have a great day traveling
through the Pinelands, riding America’s most unusual train, and seeing railroad
buildings and artifacts from the golden days of railroading in New
Jersey!
There are three fares for this
trip. Standard coach is $25 adults and $15 for children under 12. In
the Tavern Lounge Car (from the world famous Commodore Vanderbilt) the fare for everyone
including children is $35. The fare in the deluxe parlor car is $50 for
everyone including children. In the Parlor Car
passengers will be offered complimentary continental breakfast and
beverages with snacks later in the day.(Tavern Lounge
Car and the deluxe Parlor Car are SOLD OUT.)Seating on the train
is very limited and is sure to sell fast, so order your
tickets today.Box lunches consisting of a deluxe deli sandwich (your choice
of type), chips, cookie and beverage (diet or regular soda or water)
may be purchased for $7.00 each when you order your ticket(s).
To purchase tickets or for
more information go on-line to: http://www.vratrips.org/ and click on the 'Click to
order tickets' red button. Additional information is also available
on-line at the URHS website: http://www.URHS.org/ or by calling 973-238-0555
PS:
I realize that this event may not be directly on topic for this group.
But, many of us have families and have need for rail related activities
that are fun for the rest of the family, not just the rail buff! Some
may have a friend who is not as into fanning as you and would
appreciated this trip. Please forward to them!
Hi Did you try ARHS (Anthracite Railroads Historical Society)? I purchased a
drawing from them. Mine has alot of blue in it, making hard to read. It doesn't
show where the tie downs would be. Try contacting Bud Rindfleisch. He's in the
group, he might have a better drawing.

I've decided to model the L&N, but I can't bring myself to paint my LV
locomotives. I have 4 RS11s, 3 U23Bs, 2 C628s...all factory painted Atlas, all
red. I also have 2 C420s in the yellow jacket scheme, also factory painted
Atlas..and 2 LifeLike RS2s, factory painted in the old Cornell red with black
stripes. Anyone have other shells to trade?

Little to nothing, to my knowledge at least, has been said about this branch. I
suggest asking on the Railfan.net LV forums where there are ex-LV employees that
may have worked the branch in later years.

There has been some recent discussion on the Atlas Forum about cement gons.
During on of my visits to this group and having a nose through the phots and
files I noted a gon with six cement cannisters. Does anyone know where one can
find the lettering guide for these cannisters as they will become the first new
wagons for my non PRR fleet.

Can anyone tell me about any books or reference sites that might give me a
little information about the LVRR Musconetcong Branch? I found a two sentence
mention in Mike Bednar's New York Division book. I'm trying to represent this
area in an HO layout. Thanks.

I am a new member and was glad to find this group. I am in the process of
building O Scale models of L.V. 50' Double Door boxcars (based on the Pecos
River Brass plastic cars) and also the 52'6" gondolas made by Atlas.
Question: Is there an out-of-the-bottle paint color that I can use the
the freight car red used on these cars ca. 1960? Any paint will do as I can
work in both enamels and acrylics. Also need a match for the late-era green
used on freight cars.
Thanks in advance,

The Lehigh Valley had an 3.85 mile branch line running from Ricketts,
PA to Ganoga Lake. Does anyone know anything about the operation of
this branch. There is a picture of the Ganoga Station, a log structure
in several publications which indicates that there were passenger
trains on the branch. There was a large hotel by the lake. The map I
have is a very early map of the Lehigh Valley's Harvey Lake branch from
Port Bowkley to Bernice, Pa. This branch became the Bowman Creek
branch. If any one has any information on the passenger operations and
industries located along the line I would be very greatful for the
info. I am also wondering if there was a wye or turntable at the end
of the line or did the locomotives go forward one way and back up the
other way?
Thank you for any help you can give me.

Just a quick thought.... Ted Culotta. Google him and get as much from him
(websites, books, articles in RR Model Craftsman, etc. as you can. But you

Hi Al and welcome,
Since you mentioned the LVRR, let me pass on links t my work, although I am not
sure any of it is what you are looking for. But seeing LVRR and Australia
mentioned in the same post, I cannot resist. I had no idea they owned trackage
that far south :-)

Hi Folks,
Just a short note to introduce myself.
I model the Pennsylvania Railroad in N Scale and in the context of learning more
about that road I happened upon info that the PRR was involved with the Lehigh
Valley Railroad and at some time had assigned a number of RS11's to the LV. I
have seen photos in one the the Morning Sun PRR Diesel years books of one of
those diesels on Pennsy metal for servicing.
Being very one eyed Pennsy for many years I restricted my fleet to purely
Pennsy. Not quite but there is not enough variety in my freight car roster to
make it look prototypical. I have a number of GN vehicles and some Reading, B&M,
RF&P, SCL, ACL, C&O and low and behold only two LV cars. One is a green car
while the other is a mineral red car. Haven't looked at them thoroughly yet to
determine if they are real or just MTL look a likes. Once I have established
their credentials that will determine if they stay or go.
While my Pennsy modelling will continue I will now start on my "Other Roads
Roster" in ernst and if I cannot get what I want I will make it.
I consider myself to be a modeller not a plastic collector or cheque book
modeller. Not much stays as it was made.
Don't worry about my spelling as that is the way it is done here. Modelling is
spelt with 2 Ls and check book is spelt cheque.
I have the ability to cast in urethane as well as draw for etching and have been
modelling now for the past 39 years. Just the other day I submitted my first
drawing for etching and it worked beautifully. Not bad for a Geriatric.
The other part of my bit is that I live in Warwick, Australia and I find the
internet has expanded my knowledge quite a lot. I have now added the Lehigh
Valley Railroad Modeler site to my favorites bookmark for as much reference I
can get. I gather there will be a plethora of photos on the RR Pictures Archive
as well. I have also found that I have been able to join in with some of the
debates as well as provide information on modelling techniques.
No doubt when I strike a problem I cannot seem to solve I may ask someone for
some help and if I can reciprocate just call. So there it is my first LV-RR post
and I look forward to many more in the future.
What I do for a day time job is run and manufacture and organize product for
www.arkits.com . Modelling the PRR in N Scale give me an out from the Australian
scene.

Does anyone know what color the original scheme for the 1939 Asa
Packer on K-3 Pacific 2022. I suspect that it was either orange or
yellow and black. I do not know what shade the colors were. If anyone
know the colors of the Asa Packer please let me know. I am getting
ready to paint the 2022 and need to know what color to use. Thank you
for any help you may have. Joel Holmes
My name is Tim Fahey and I'm a new member of the group. I working on the
plans for my first HO railroad. It will be based loosely upon the LVRR.
My wife grew up in the paper mill town of Hughesville, NJ. Her uncle was
an engineer for the LVRR and used to work the route that included the
paper mill. My layout will be based upon that mill and the general area.
I'm most interested in any information about train activity in and
around Hughesville. I'm also interested in general historical info about
the LVRR that would pertain to the mid-1950s. Thanks.
Tim
This is the group’s monthly reminder informing you that you are a member of
Lehigh Valley Railroad Collector and Modeler Group at Yahoo! Groups.
It is sent for three reasons.
1. To find email addresses that are no longer good
2. As a friendly reminder of some of Yahoo Groups features and
3. To point out common mistakes.
Features . . .
Yahoo! Groups gives each group 100 MB of file space. Please share your
work with others by uploading to the group’s file an photo areas. Also
Yahoo! Groups has an online database that can be sorted. While limited
in size – 1000 records and record categories – I believe 10. It
is still can be put to lots of uses with a little inventiveness.
Plus there is the polling feature.
Also there are now Yahoo Group Apps -- Please use 'em.
Pet peeves . . .
All members – please cleanup replies. While the whole original post is sometimes
needed to make sense of a reply, often the original post can be snipped down to
the subject of your response. What I definitely don’t want are original posts
with a ‘me too’ added!
Digest members -- you pay a price in receiving a digest. You MUST cleanup your
reply and you MUST change the subject line back to the subject.

OK, that is it. Have a nice day.

Hi Bud;
Nice work on the Osgood car...I bashed a few of these many years ago. You are
correct, they do need a bit more detail but, look good overall.
Are the piggyback flats, S scale as well? Detail on those cars and trailers are
superb!
Jeff
I want to change out the snowplows on my 3 Atlas HO Scale U23B's with Detail
West Plows. Which plow would be the best match? Front/Rear? I have plow 235
which looks ok, but I want to get other LV Modelers opinions.
Thanks,
Matt
