Why it a good idea to set up a mentoring program based on LinkedIn?
Mentoring program can serve as the bridge between students at school and senior engineers/managers at work. Through such program, students can get interaction with industry, and know what to learn at school.
IEEE and other society has offered such program already. I am not aware if there is this kind of program on LinkedIn.
I am currently in the transition from academia to industry. I notice there are many warm hearted senior engineers/managers/entrepreneurs on LinkedIn. So I guess setting up some kind of formal channel for mentoring will be very helpful to both mentors and mentees. This kind of program can be helpful to the whole industry for there are more qualified students get trained which can be ready for the workforce.
Such program will not be limited by students/engineers, and will be extended to both engineers in the workforce, and the mentor may be senior than the mentee, or is more experienced in one aspect.
Regarding to the learning process for the students at school. The students will not only know that to learn, but also know how to apply the knowledge to the work while learning. So that, students can fully understand the basic concepts of the knowledge, as well as the advanced topics.
