LOGAN-- Logan News Group proudly endorsed the Philadelphia Black Public Issues Forum at last week's Young People's Anti-violence Summit held at the Prince Hall Lodge on North Broad Street. The Black Public Issues Forum grew out of the work of the late Father Paul Washington, rector of the Church of the Advocate in North Philadelphia. The Philadelphia Black Public Issues Forum is an outlet for dissident Black voices on public issues. The Young People's Antiviolence Summit" heard from those closest to the violence: the young people of the Black community.
Just as Logan News Group was formed to give a community ignored by the media a voice; we endorse this forum for not only young African Americans, but all Blacks who want a voice-who have an issue to be heard. We, like Fr. Washington are dedicated to allowing that voice to be heard in the public square.
Don't let your voice be silent! Join the dialogue with young people; people of all ages and races about public issues that impact on our quality of life, and our livelihoods. Support the community with your presence and with your finances. If its "Buy Black" that makes that happen, then make it happen. Keep local dollars in the community. Develop jobs in the community for young people and don't patronize 'stop-n-go' stores that remain open at all hours of night and sell drug related items, and malt liquor products. Step up and speak up. Change your community by participating in these worthwhile efforts with your young person. Lead by example. Be an example.
