the drift cards that he has - which includes #34246 -
show that there is a definite hue change from the later (1947) blue -
#55074.
The later color is a deeper blue while the earlier color shows to be a bit
more toward gray. He tells me that Monon also used #34246, and that Aberdeen
and Rockfish have recently used the same color. So, the E-3's and E-6's, as
well as the early passenger cars, I presume, were definitely a different
shade
of blue than anything painted after the 1947 date

Looking at Kevin's EuDaly's diesel book the candidates for the earlier blue
would have been:
- 7000-7001 E-3's
- 7100 AA6
7002-7003 E-6's
7004-7013 E-7's
2000-2007 E-7's (T&P)
501-512 FT's

Will be interesting to see of the grey and yellow were also different given
they also have different numbers assigned prior to 10/47

Dan, thanks will be interesting to see what the lighter hue turns out to be,
Charlie.

I found the photo that Charles Duckworth was referring to.

I found it at:
www.memory.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/d?runyon:57:./temp/~ammen_2kaM::

I first went through the University Of Texas Library, looked under Runyon, and
connected to the Library of Congress files.

I knew a paint discussion would get the air waves going..............well at
least this tells us the 7000, 7001, 7100, 7002 and 7003 had light grey roofs
when delivered from EMD. It's nice to know the drift cards are still
around, are they from teh 1940's or present day?

Good paint information. This needs to get into the Eagle too. I've been
doing a little research on the E6's and their paint schemes. Looking times
and locations when they had the solid blue or gray pilots, when the D&RGW
name was dropped, and when the Eagle Medalion changed from Colorado Eagle to
Missouri Pacific Lines. With the available photographs, there is some
interesting confusion. The photo of the "Scenic Limited" in the Stout book
coming into Kirkwood has to be wrong! The E6's couldn't have been pulling
the Scenic Limited before the Colorado Eagle came into existence with gray
pilots and MP Lines on the medalion!

Charlie,
I have forwarded this to John Lee at Badger Airbrush, for confirmation
against drift cards and mixes. I seem to remember that John told me that the
different numbers were due to a DuPont change in chemistry, and not due to a
change in color. I would suggest that different color skies and lighting are
more responsible for the color differences, not to mention early color film
problems. But John will have the info on hand, and I just have to wait for him
to get back to me. I believe he's off today and tomorrow, as well as Monday, so
we may have to wait until Tuesday.

While going through Ray Curl's collection yesterday I found a card from the
Mopac Mechanical Department covering the paint numbers for Diesel Loco's
(Road). In reviewing the changes you'll notice acouple of things 1) the
original blue from 1939 was changed, this hopefully explains the early color
photos of the 7000-7001 E-3's (and E-6's) being a lighter blue than in
photographs of E-7 through E-8's and the PA's.

Look at Joe Collias' book Mopac in Color page 44 of the E-6 and compare to
some of the other units. Obviously the only way to tell for sure is have
Dupont paint chips of 246-34246 and 254-55074 to see if the hues were
darker. Interior colors for all years was Suede gray Dulux 83-503. Bill
Hoss has a color slide that his neighbor took of one of the E-3's on a
heavyweight train taken before the streamlined Eagle cars were delivered and
the blue is definately lighter than E units delivered after 1947.

Roof grey wasn't introduced until December 1949 and for a short seven months
(9/48 to 3/49 units were to be given a clear coat.

Thanks for the answer. I would ask that the two owners of the list, Mopac
and MoPacRR get together and combine these into one. This would benefit all
that are interested in the MoPac.

Charlie Duckworth has started MopacRR list when He did a search and didn't
find any other list dealing with the MOP.

Charlie can be reached at the above address.

Why do we have two list for MoPac items. There is MoPac and MoPacRR.
Can we get this down to one list?

Hi,

Looking for railroad related places to stay on your Summer trip(s)?

A copy of the listing of B&B's, hotels, and motels in RR buildings or RR
cars can be had for an e-mail to me.

Cheers, Roger

it is as I suspected...the MP Caboose in Fredonia was sold at least 3 years
ago, but there is no information as to where it went.

This one was at the Depot but it is apparently gone. Anyone know where
it went?

It MAY not be there. Some one reported they thought that's where they
saw it.

Thanks, Roger

Roger,
I don't recall seeing the 12433 in Fredonia last time I was there, but I will
ask one of my road crews for the SKOL and be sure. The other questions for
Kansas I can't answer...I couldn't find the 13595 in Conway Springs either.

Roger, I believe that you can find all of your answers in the MoPac Caboose
book, available from the MoPac Historical Society, www.geocities.com/~MoPac,
authored by noted caboose historian G. Jerry Michels, Jr. By the way, I
forwarded your first message to the webmaster, who also happens to be the
Archivist for the Society.

Howdy,

Is MP 12433 still at the Depot in Fredonia, KS?

Where in Osawatomie, KS, is #13279?

How about the location of 13417 in Sesser, IL?

Who has the address for Comet Industries, KC, MO, home of ol' 13525?

Is hack no. 13595 in Conway Springs, KS? If so, where?

Where is the private siding in Arkadelphia, AR, that holds the 13621?

MP 13691 is reported in Redfield, AR. Where in town is it?

MP 13712, Knob Noster, MO, was reported to be going to Clinton, MO. Did
it?

Thanks, Roger

Howdy,

MP 13664 has been reported in across the street from the Depot, Lonoke
and at the Depot with a MoPac boxcar, Carlisle, AR. Did it move from
Lonoke to Carlisle?

Thanks, Roger

I need some info on a former NO&LC Plymouth switcher. The 3001 was sold
in Oct. of 1961 to Kansas & Missouri Elevator Co. From there it went to
Jones Coal Co. and then Mackey Clemens mining. Mackey Clemens recently
went bankrupt and a museum group I am in, the Heart of the Heartlands
has a chance to get the engine from the State of Kansas. We would like
to know if this engine ever wore MoP blue or the earlier black scheme.
If anyone has any photos of this engine, we would appreciate any info.
Thanks.

Yes, there are other MoPac modelers out here. Check out the web site I posted in
bookmarks, and I'll pass this site along to my fellow MoPacites.

The profile doesn't allow for any other info, but I'm a member of the MPHS and
the L&NHS, and I model October 1955. Fall Foliage on the Chester sub - river
level at its finest. Tell me what you think of the Mop site - we're working on a
"Available models" page now.

So there IS somebody on the list other than me. I was starting to wonder. I
am Vic Rance from Adelaide, South Australia and I model the Santa Fe in HO
scale. HOLD ON - before you delete my message - one of the towns on my
layout is (will be?) Madison, Kansas which, according to 1903 and 1922 maps
I have was also seviced by the Missouri Pacific. Came in from the east thru
Lamont, Gridley, Leroy and joined/crossed the ATSF just SE of Madison before
entering town & running right up Madison Ave.
So i'm looking for ANY railroady info re Madison KS. When did MP service
cease, any pic's etc etc.
Also in the general area of Kansas I am modeling the MoPac crossed ATSF
tracks at (or near) Benedict, Benedict Junction, Toronto and Eureka.
Anybody able to help with some info.

Vic.
