Nate, look at the bottom of this page for the anti-skid on a GP38-2.

JCT and I have been discussing whether this was black or a very dark
Gray. I think gray but you decide for yourself.

Now the GEs had this as well but the one U30C I looked at had a pattern
of small squares of this material across the nose between the grabs
which are around the top of the nose. I have photos some where but who
knows where.

I'm thinking that the pattern on the GP15-1 with the access plate was a
little different but I can't recall how at the moment.

Hope this helps.

In trying to find a picture of a MP switchstand I found this old post but the
old link is no good and I cannot find the indicated picture on the new site.
Does anyone have a picture or link to a picture of a MP switchstand?

Lake Junction might possibly do one style: where there others?

Nathan,
I sent you a pic of the nose top w/anti-skid strip. I believe they were a 3M
products, it's a vinyl product with a sandy surface. The primary use is for
an anti-slip area, not anti-glare. They didn't apply anti-glare to Mopac
units due to the dark paint that usually dulled out due to weather and
dust/dirt anyway.

On some units they applied paint then sprinkled sand on the paint and let it
dry, thus causing an anti-slip area. On the other GP15's w/toilet hatch they
didn't apply that black area. This is the same method they used on the rear
of the unit(s) around the sand hatch.

Bill,
Photos of MP 121368 (Dreadnaught Ends) and MP 1277 (Murphy ends from
original series 120000-120849) are shown in my article in Railway
Prototype Cyclopedia Volume 14. The 39-page article covers all MP
single & double-sheathed box cars that were rebuilt as all-steel cars
in the 1950s (including the Eagle Merchandise cars).

Greetings,

I have made some changes with the start of construction of my layout and no
longer need these two locomotives. I bought both of them earlier this summer so
they are practically brand new. Both come with the original boxes, instructions,
and warranty information. They both started out as UP factory painted units, the
shells were stripped and repainted by me along with the addition of detail
parts, decals, and some light weathering with pastels. The details on both
include grab irons, coupler lift bar & MU hoses (front), firecracker antenna,
spark arrestors, and side-mount bells. They both include metal ouplers - Kadees
on the GP38 and Proto-Max on the GP15. They were painted with Badger Modelflex
UP Armour Yellow and UP Harbor Mist Gray.

Here! Here!

As an N scale modeler I have nothing but praise for the the Intermountain
Issues!

I have long held a Model Railroader issue with a detailed article about
painting the blue and grey scheme on F units, hoping my skills would be someday
up to the task of rendering it in N scale.

Then along came Intermountain with F T's and F 7's looking awesome, wire
hand grabs and LED lights!  Not to mention an incredibly crisp, yet tiny
well rendered buzzsaw logo on the nose.

I have purchased all 6 road #'s of the mo-pac composite gondola. and they
look great, right down to the simulated wood flooring in tan whereas the rest of
the gon is black.

I keep crossing my fingers that someday they'll put out an SD 40 - 2 with
the screaming eagle on the long hood!

Everyone,

I received the latest issue of the Eagle and I was impressed, both with it and
the Intermountain USRA composite gondola I purchased some time back.  The car I
have is numbered 71458, and it looks just like one of the cars on pages 12 and
13, particularly the one pictured on the bottom of page 12 (#71372).

Hi Bill,

Don't use Testor's Dullcoat, this will make the decal really thick. You need
to get Micro Liquid Decal Film, this is made by Microscale decals and is
made to help restore old decals. The stock number is MI-12 and cost around
$3.00. Here is a link to their web page

Actually the 6140 kit was mentioned in the article. At one time F&C made the
panel side version with interior detail but they are no longer listed and I have
not been able to convince Steve (Camerlengo) to offer them again. See my model:
http://home.comcast.net/~jerryglow/modeling/MP_gondola.html

The Sunshine models were actually F&C relabeled acc. to my conversations with
Steve. Sunshine did offer a "retro-kit" consisting of an extra non-panel side
and new ends to make an StLB&M 48' car. No decals or further information was
given. I scratch built and underframe and made decals on the ALPS to do mine.
See:
http://home.comcast.net/~jerryglow/modeling/StLBM_gon.html
I have talked to Steve about offering this and he said if he did it, he would
make it a complete kit. I've offered him the artwork for decals. Drop him a note
if interested in this to encourage him. Hopefully I'll talk to him at ProtoRails
at Cocoa Beach in Jan.

Bill,
The car in question is roofless, a 36' double-sheathed box car with
Dreadnaught ends from series 120850-121749 that was modified for coke
service. A total of 30 cars were converted in 3 batches of 10 cars each
between July 1945 and early 1949.

When converted, the cars retained their original numbers but were
renumbered in 1950 to 1270-1299. Remaining cars in 1956 were renumbered
back into the original series. All were out of service by Jan. 1961.
Regards,
Ed Hawkins

Hi Bill,

Don't use Testor's Dullcoat, this will make the decal really thick. You need
to get Micro Liquid Decal Film, this is made by Microscale decals and is
made to help restore old decals. The stock number is MI-12 and cost around
$3.00. Here is a link to their web page
http://www.microscale.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=MI-12&\
Category_Code=FINPROD&Product_Count=6

Hope this helps.

Apparantly the Grey Summit depot was not the only one Purina acquired. I ran
across one in a sample from a CD collection of C&NW depots.
