You did not provide information about what OS you are using or what email client.

In Mac OS 10.6 or 10.5 and maybe 10.4, you can try this to convert the file to a .jpg:

First double click the pictclipping image to open it in the finder. Next from the Finder’s “Edit” menu choose “Copy”. Then, launch the “Preview” application and from the “File” menu choose “New from clipboard”. Then using the “File" -> "Save as” menu option, save the file as any image type you need.

The very useful software Graphic Converter can probably open and save the file as most any file type too. http://www.lemkesoft.com/content/188/graphicconverter.html
