Trying to judge interest in a beautiful Galloway bull calf. Sire is Ace and dam
is Double Take. Can get some photos together for those interested.

Sire stands about waist high on me (I'm 6'1"). Thinking of asking $2,000.
Sorry about the lack of info at this time but I've had inquiries about steering
him for "little steaks". Trying to decide which way to go.

There are listings in there for Dexter cattle in all states. Scroll down to Oregon and Washington to find one you like.

Thomas' Dexters specializes in red color.

Celestial Dexters has a lot of red, too. He's having a relocation sale and is offering deals on many of his Dexters.

There's a black heifer in Skamokawa, WA offered for sale or trade.

There's a polled black heifer in Monroe, WA.

If you can't find exactly what you want on that list, go to http://www.dextercattle.org/members.htm

You'll find a list of Dexter breeders there that includes Washington and neighboring states. Also click on the current membership list for a full list af ADCA members. Scroll to your state. You'll probably find one very close to you.

Dexter owners are pretty nice people. As soon as you talk to one you'll be pointed to someone likely to have what you're looking for.

These are not dwarves.  A dwarf is one that has a deformity gene....like the bulldog gene.  He has been breeding for decades and has very healthy beef type mini cattle.  If it were me, I would go directly to Ralph via email or phone and ask him all the questions you have.  Mini beef cattle make as much sense as mini dairy cattle.  You feed 1/3 the food on 1/3 the land and get 2/3 the product of the large cattle.  Plus, they ready up faster so you don't spend 18 months to 2 years feeding them in order to have meat on your table or in your freezer.  Ideal for small family farms.

and it never did make sense to me......
and I tried to contact him with questions a few years ago - and he never answers?

what is the criteria for a Sundog?

This is for a family who WANTS as small a cow as possible.....they just lost their old short-legged red Dexter cross cow to old age (18) she was a pet, and spoiled rotten.  They have a tiny Sundog? Bull they breed to every year for small calves that the children raise...steers go to freezer.  Must be reasonable priced, as this will be puchased for the family as a surprise gift by the friends and family and church.  Can be any age under 8 yrs.   Call 509-422-6388  or email me    lazyb@amerion.com

Hi:

You can get all the details from Mother Marija: marija@...

The calf was just born, maybe a week ago?  She is very tiny and her canon bone is only 4.5 inches, so she will stay nice and small. I can't remember if the dam is 41" or smaller.  They do milk, so I know they bottle feed their other little calves and sell them as bottle babies.  I can only figure they will do the same with this little one.  I can't remember where the Monestary is exactly.  They also raise mini horses and sheep.  They take such good care of their animals and just adore these little Jerseys, so I never mind referring them to people.

Hello AMZA members and Miniature Zebu enthusiasts,

I have been remiss in posting as I have been busier than a one armed paper hanger!

I am not sure where to start there are soooooooo many people to thank for the amazing summer/fall show season. In spite of the financial downturn in the economy, the Miniature Zebu Cattle shows and sales have continued to grow, this thanks to the hard working volunteers and board of the AMZA.

We had 120+ entries at the State Fair of Texas, Dallas TX and the AMZA National Show, Louisiana State Fair in Shreveport, LA. Many thanks to Larry Munchrath, show superintendent of the State Fair of Texas and Roger Maxwell, show superintendent of the Louisiana State Fair, for all their hard work and for two successful shows, second to none.

Everything went smooth as glass, weather was beautiful and the quality of animals continues to get better and better and competition continues to get harder and harder! Wow, we all should be proud of the strides we have made in the quality, disposition and consistency that the shows have done to improve and promote the Miniature Zebu Breed.

Just five short years ago we struggled to get 40 entries to hold a sanctioned show, now we have three times that number of entries with quality animals that exemplify what a Miniature Zebu is and why they are the cattle of the future.

I want to thank Jim Mannos for all his hard work, the AMZA has grown in such leaps and bounds that he has been working hard to keep up, but doing an amazing job. I always say, the AMZA may not be the oldest Miniature Zebu Registry, and it may not be the largest in number of animals in the data base, but I think it goes without saying, the AMZA is the BEST Miniature Zebu Registry because it goes beyond just registering your animals and taking your money.

The AMZA pays out over $10,000.00 a year in Premiums that go back to AMZA members only at the highly coveted show venues like: Florida State Fair, Tampa FL. Colorado State Fair, Pueblo, CO. Texas State Fair, Dallas, TX. Louisiana State Fair, Shreveport, LA.
Red River Valley Fair, Paris, TX Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, Houston, TX as well as the
Run for the Roses Show, Lancaster, TX and the wonderful, Ze' Orange DeLite, Ocala, FL.

The AMZA has trained and licensed our own quality judges that know and understand the distinct and important breed character of the Miniature Zebu.

The AMZA has implemented our Official Height Measuring and Frame Scoring program.

I am currently working on all the updates of the PGCH (Permanent Grand Champion) and MCH (Master Champion) animals and hope to have all the new qualified animals updated soon.

Larry Munchrath has done an amazing job with the AMZA website, www.amzaonline.com and now Bernie Keasler is helping him to give the web site an whole new face and look, thanks to both of you!

Debbie Ganschow has taken over the Nadu-Zebu Journal and did a wonderful job on her first issue, for those of you who haven't received it yet, it will be in the mail ASAP! Thank you Debbie for all you do, your a sweetheart and we love you.

Our 2009 National Show in Shreveport was an absolute, amazing success, Harrah's Casino hosted a free dinner buffet on Thursday night for all the exhibitors, thanks to Roger, Alma and Cody Maxwell who pulled strings to get 50 of us in for a wonderful meal. Alma made beautiful exhibitors gift bags filled with great gifts, snacks etc. Friday, the Louisiana Zebu Ladies fixed an incredible luncheon for everyone with home made food and desserts that rivaled any 4 star restaurant! The Pruitt family brought home made goat cheese dips and desserts that were out of this world! Thank you, thank you, thank you. We went on to have the traditional Tony's Seafood/Louisiana Seafood Dinner, awards banquet and Bingo on Friday night. Mike Pizolotto and John did their usual Louisiana Seafood Dinner that is out of this world! Fresh fried Catfish, awesome crawfish ettoufee on rice, boudain balls, salad and more. For those of you who have never experienced Mikes food, I feel sorry for you! Thanks Mike and John, we love and appreciate you more than you will ever know. Mike donates all the food and his time to the AMZA for this special event every year, surely he has a place in Heaven! Not only was the food amazing, bountiful and generous, but so was the fellowship and friendship from our exhibitors.

Kathleen Schmidt, Dunnellon, FL. graciously judged our club show and did a wonderful job. No easy feat judging over 100 head of cattle at your first gig, but Kathleen proved she is one of us and here for the long haul. Thanks to Kathleen and her husband John, for coming to Louisiana and helping us with our most successful National Show ever.

Congratulations to all the winners of all three shows and thanks to all the exhibitors who worked hard and supported the show. Without you, our AMZA members the shows would be nothing, our hats off to all of you for your support to the AMZA and dedication to the breed.

Many, many people step up to the plate and do their share to make the shows successful, run smoothly and make the shows a quality, family experience. I know I have failed to mentioned the names of many of you and for that I apologize. But.. please know your sacrifice and hard work don't go unnoticed or unappreciated. It takes many hard working AMZA members to put on a successful show and I want to personally thank you all for your contributions.

We had many wonderful donations to the Bingo also, and I want to again express the appreciation we have for those of you who brought items. The Bingo is a fund raise to help finance the show and your participation helps more than you know.

I will have the show results for all the shows up ASAP, thanks again to everyone. I love you all and hope to see you soon.

Don't forget the Houston Livestock Show and the Florida State Fair! Go to www.amzaonline.com for more info.

For many years, Kerry and Dexter cows were kept in the same registry. In 1957, the name American Kerry and Dexter Club was changed to American Dexter Cattle Association. There had been no Kerry registrations since 1920.

Kerry cows are generally taller and more of a dairy style, while the Dexter cows have a more dual purpose nature. They're shorter and beefier.

Other than that, they're very similar. It's hard to tell them apart from a picture.

Does anyone here own a Kerry that they are using for a family milk cow? If so
can you please tell me how she is to handle and how much milk you are getting.
It seems that Kerry cows are a bit bigger than I had thought they were. Are
they even considered a miniature cow?

Thank you,
Marsha
