Subject: Forward - Community Meeting regarding HS athletic facilities

I was asked to forward this information along........ Feel free to pass this along to anyone else you think might be interested.

The design teams for the new facilities at the high school have worked really hard to make significant upgrades that are in line with the budget for the project.  There has been a lot of resistance from the board about certain aspects in the plan.  For example, the team wants to put in some type of artificial turf field and an all-weather track.  Dave Collins, head of maintenance, has done the budget work for all of this and can actually show that this will save the district money in several ways.  Both of these additions will effect a large amount of people and allow for more money to be brought into the community in general.  CHSAA has actually contacted Mr. Weideman about hosting major track and field events here…but only if we have the all-weather track.  However, the board has made it clear that they do not support these additions and would prefer to just have a dirt track and normal field.

We have decided to hold a community meeting on Monday, November 28th @ 5:30 in the high school library.  At this meeting Dave Collins, Greg Jones, and Scott Weideman will provide all the information that one would need to form their own opinion about their stance on this issue.

Several of us want to use the information given and approach the board from a community stand point at the board meeting on December 1st.  We are already on the agenda and Mike McNeil has agreed to step in and be the speaker on behalf of all of us who are concerned.

As part of the Sustainable Main Streets ongoing project work, there will be a meeting to discuss design for the old tire shop/police station building.

6pm, Tuesday, December 13, 2011
Chamber of Commerce
947 1st Ave, Monte Vista 81144
Goal- get input on the design for the re-use of the building

This was one of the buildings the Monte Vista Sustainable Main Streets group identified as having historical significance. With the police moving out, the city has an opportunity to develop a design for the building that protects its historical significance, provides opportunity for businesses, and provides opportunity for affordable housing.

As you may remember, the city received a grant from the US Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Dept. of Local Affairs and the State Historical Fund to develop this design. The city would like your input; we'll use your feedback to come up with a design to meet the needs of the community. If this is something you are interested in, please join us!

Hope to see you there,
Andy Hill
PS- I have sent this to Deb's Sustainable Main Streets email group- please share with others you feel have a stake in the redesign and reuse of this building.
