I counsel you that you should not be tempted to take tit for tat
action against her but I would be highly tempted to ask her why she
does not front up in the group.

The replies I received were posted through the Yahoo Groups messaging
system. When you reply to a post on Yahoo Groups, the messaging
system adds this field to the reply citing the message being replied
to:

This cites the message ID field that is put into every message sent.
The message whose Message ID field reads as above is Message 13,

Ian, my original concept for this group remains the same. I am here
to promote and photograph railway equipment.

Please be assured it is not a personal battle through my group. I
have emailed Chris and she has replied although not what I wanted.

I am blown away by the support I am recieving. This group is for all
railway interseted people.

If, because of my ban, I am bitter, i am sorry. I have stated on
Rail-Issues why I am so bitter.

You see, I am a teacher who has a small group of students (35) who
all shared an interest in rail. I used to print off information
about rail movements especially steam or anything of interest. Many
of these students are single parent families and I am sometimes their
only male adult they can relate to. It stops many of these children
from stealing, playing playstation etc.

Chris has not only disadvantaged me, but the future rail fans.

If you are sick of the bickering, please consider the disappointment
of my students when I told them of what has happened.

Chris is going to email me again - so I hope the pressure and
goodness will allow me and my small group of students access our
information and continue to encourage their hobbies

Cheers

If the main topic of conversation on this forum continues to be
personalities, and character assasinations, instead of the Group
Subject, this Group will have a very short life.

I, for one, am sick to bloody death of all the petty bickering. Let's
all act like grown-ups and get on with the subject in
hand.....NZ_Railway-Rollingstock, if I remember correctly. It should be
complementary to TRP, not against it.

Hello all

After several emails to Chris AKA Ja**** I have had no reply. I am
being bounced and emails are being returned. I have decided to go and
run the new group. I had no intentions of competing. My group was
another chapter ( Rollingstock) for railfans that was not being
catered for.

I cannot believe the insult of being banned. My group is for all
members. I am only the person who set it up. It is up to you all to
make this group.

As many of you are aware, i have formed a group that will compete. I
didn't want to, but we need a South Island voice( and North
Islanders) and a voice that informs all railway fans of what is going
on.

Please keep me informed of what is going on and post it.

She has thrown the first stone, I have thrown the rock

Cheers all

I have become involved in an advocacy position through having been informed
in the first place of Darrin's banning as he is completely in the dark and
having been informed in the case of other bannings that have occurred,
giving me the ability to view this situation rationally. In this situation I
feel compelled to challenge the ban that has occurred in this case as the
grounds appear to be based on a misunderstanding and other attempts to
resolve the situation appear to have failed.

I note the series of sharp exchanges between you and Joseph on TRP on the
matter of his own group which seem to be unnecessarily antagonistic towards
Joseph.

This matter and my views are well recorded in my postings particularly to
Rail-Issues and I welcome the suggestion that the ban is an aberration and
may be removed in the near future.

Your postings on this and similar matters of late have all the finesse and
subtlety of a bulldozer. With respect I suggest you get some sleep and after
your excursion has finished, try to approach this matter rationally after
then.

I had half expected my membership of TRP to be threatened but I am not
greatly concerned by this as the approach taken to two members recently over
the formation of their own groups is unnecessarily antagonistic and high
handed. Given that around seven other group moderators are members of TRP
with no ongoing antagonism and that these groups all fit very specific
niches of the NZ railway spectrum there is room for the two groups run by
Joseph and Darrin assuming their primary focus is the distribution of
resources and not of messages.

The message you originally replied to pointed out that it was, and I believe
still is, a waste of time trying to hijack TRP by forming another group in
the same vein as I judge this unlikely to succeed. The discussions of these
issues in the group serves a useful purpose of being an object lesson to
some of the other members who are in the group.

Hi Guys

I know the reasons why I was banned and that's fine by
me but Ive got to agree with Darrin on the way that
this whole thing has been handled.

The way I look at it as certain persons who dont cut
the mustard with Chris will either be banned or not
allowed to post

Who really cares if there is yet another group out
there for people to talk on is the a ruling on the net
that says people cannot form other groups why should
we not be allowed to do this

This copy of my message 32140 in TRP is forwarded for your convenience.

To the best of my knowledge this is the only "discussion" as such that has
taken place in TRP regarding any action by the moderators.

I would appreciate any member of TRP who knows if any other discussion has
taken place about a ban on Darrin for the two messages he posted. The
messages I have received personally from the TRP moderator including the one
telling me that Darrin was banned are confidential communications. There has
to date been no further communication on the ban.

Competition is a fact of life in the real world, your society manages
perfectly well in a world where there are dozens of railfan groups.
If people went around saying "we won't talk to you because you are a
competing society" there would be no FRONZ etc. Practically every
society in NZ competes to some extent with everyone else. Yet we now
have a hitherto unprecedented level of cooperation between the
different societies.

There are by my reckoning at least five members of this group who
moderate other Yahoo groups, by implication all these groups compete
with this group but they are allowed to run e.g.
newzealandlocomotives, NZHT-Rail, nzpassenger, NZJiggers, NZBaNGR,
etc so why is this Rollingstock group different?

This rollingstock group was first advertised about a month ago here
and the poster stated he was scanning hundreds of pictures of rolling
stock. It was clearly implied the main purpose of this group was the
hundreds of pictures and not to receive postings. Not one reply to
that message exists in the message archives of this group. On the
face of it there appears to be zero objections to that earlier
message. And on the face of it that poster might have taken the lack
of objections as being an indication of the willingness of the
moderators to allow posts of that nature to be made.

Every Yahoo group now in existence has to a lesser or greater extent
drawn off the groups before it going all the way back to nz_railchat.
One day the members of this group might decide of their own free will
to move to another group with different ownership. Isn't that what
happens in the real world?

When I set out to write this reply I first searched the archive for
the message 31859 that started this discussion. I discovered that
messages 31859 and 31860 no longer exist in the message archives but
I have copies of them that I received by email. Apart from the
original poster the only other person(s) that could have removed them
are the moderators of this group. As they do not appear to contain
offensive wording, if a moderator was responsible for removing them
from the archives then they should front up in this group and explain
their actions. Unless the moderators have additional information that
they have not shared with the group, the removal of messages suggests
an overbearing attitude of censorship that I believe is unnecessarily
heavy handed in this case.

My advice to you is not to become bitter about it. As there is
lobbying going on with the moderators and a new moderator has just
been appointed in TRP, there is still a possibility of the direction
being reversed.

I have been quite surprised by the altercations between the moderator
and Joseph this evening which resulted in an apology from the
moderator posted in the group. Joseph as you know has formed his own
group to store his photos in resulting in a sharp exchange with the
moderator of TRP.

You can direct messages to all the moderators by posting them to
Tranzrailphotographers-owner@yahoogroups.com, these messages cannot
be blocked. They will be forwarded by Yahoo to all the moderators
personal email addresses.

If you want to post discussions of this matter in a forum where the
moderator of TRP is a member, sign up to Rail-Issues and reply to the
thread of discussion I have started.

I would like to ask how these TRP members became aware of a ban since
the subject has never been discussed in TRP. It has only been alluded
to by a message I posted querying the actions of the moderators who
have deleted your two posts from the message archives. That subject
has been ruled out of order for further discussion but the message
has not been deleted, nor have I been subjected to any action as yet
by the moderators.

I do not see the need for the formation of another group and will not
personally support that action. Continue to make your regular
contributions to NZHT-Rail as the moderator there is not of the same
political persuasion as in TRP and will not act against you in the
same way. This will work in your favour if you are not being seen to
carry out grudge motives against TRP.

While I oppose Darrin being banned, the issues that resulted in you
bening banned from TRP are quite different and I support the ban that
was put on and that has been maintained in your case. Another TRP
member who was banned at the same time as you has been allowed to
rejoin the group. And I who was banned from joining have been allowed
to become a member. So things are not quite the same in respect of
all situations that regard the banning of members on TRP.

Well Darrin welcome to the club Im banned of TRP as well cause of
what happened last year about a certain subject.

I will tell all something and that is that since I was tossed off TRP
as a moderator some two years ago there has been a lot of nasty
things go under the bridge and now because of other issues I will not
get my postings back on TRP for 6 months this ban is nearly up and Im
still not going to be able to post because of a personal issue.

hello all

Thank you all for the support you have given me about TRP. It was

I was not notified about the ban or even what was going on.

It is sad to think that one person can have such an effect on so
many. So far I have recieved 27 emails from TRP members expressing
their concerns about my ban.

As I tried to explain to Chris. I had copied the address from the
previos email and palced in in the wrong box ( Subject) my Daughter

On a nother note thanks for the feedback about the site. Yes I will

Thanks all
