In a January 7, 2008, in an article in the ADA News, it was announced that American Dental Partners, Inc. of Wakefield, MA, lost a lawsuit with Minnesota based Park Dental & Dental Specialists.

Some industry analysts feel the decision may have industry-wide implications.  ADPI, Inc, is a management company much like OCA.

 

The $130.6 million dollar award included $42.25 million in punitive damages on claims of breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, and several other claims.  The doctors had initially alleged that the contract was illegal under Minnesota law, but this claim was set aside by the court prior to the beginning of the trial.
