In an entry dated 4/25, OCA (aka orthosynetics) notes that Dr. Hector Bush has settled his differences with OCA and returned to the fold. WOW! Most folks who spent hundreds of thousands in legal fees fighting with someone don't harbor many kind feelings toward that adversary when it's all done! I wonder what sort of deal they cut with him? (For specifics, go to www.orthodon.com, and click the "look who's blogging tab.")
Could this signal that OCA has finally realized that trying to work cooperatively works better than trying to hammer docs into line via the legal system? I understand that Dr. B has a big operation. Given his past position on the OCA Board of Directors, he must have at least some sense of the business side of the company and therefore be a potential asset in that department? But to get back in bed with the company after all the name
calling, personal attacks, and other unpleasantness inherant in the legal process is still quite a surprise.
The OCA website blog also states that they signed 8 new docs in January, and are doing some active recruiting, with another possible sign up completed and others expressing interest. I wonder if the new recruits know of OCA's history, and current litigation load with probably dozens of docs who would rather spend big dollars on legal fees than remain a part of the affiliate body? OCA's past history and problems are hardly a secret in the orthodontic community. But despite what I remember to be a commitment to objective reporting, OCA's blog seems to only report things which are favorable to intimidating docs who get restive or are in the process of trying to leave. (This leaves a real question in my mind as to whether they're any more disclosed than they ever were?)
Personally, I
wouldn't return to OCA for any conceivable amount of money. And given my contribution to their past corporate problems, I doubt they'd be interested in having me! However, like all material in my posts, it's my own personal opinion
