Subject: HISTORY & MYSTERY COUNTDOWN

HI ALL,

16 DAYS AND COUNTING UNTIL OUR EVENING OF HISTORY & MYSTERY,
Saturday, May 6th is fast approaching and in hopes of impressing upon everyone the importance of the need of help of Historical Society members, Little Brown Church Committee members and Ocean Shore Railroad Committee members...

Can you help in these ways?

1)  Every member take the responsibility of selling five (5) $10.00 tickets, and getting people to attend the fundraiser.
(We appreciate members paying the money for tickets and that contribution but we need "real people" attending the function, since our real money maker will be the gift basket donation raffle and the silent auction items.)

2)  Every member to donate a gift basket, items or money to buy items for a gift basket.  Do you have larger items that don't fit into a basket that could be in the silent auction.   It is our hope to have at least 40 baskets to raffle.
We also need empty baskets, totes, hatboxes, etc  for the items we already have.  Betty will wrap baskets and decorate if you bring them to a meeting.

3)  Do you buy, dine, have your hair cut or styled, nails done, car serviced or any other everyday service at a business who you could request a gift certificate from?  We do have the non-profit forms to give the donor and they will be thanked and advertised.
Restaurant certificates and overnight stays at local hotels would be great.
We can also use bottles of wine, cookbooks or other books for baskets.

4)  Can you contribute a 32 oz jar of spaghetti sauce or a container of grated cheese or salad dressing.  (We have the spaghetti and some sauce and cheese already).
We are hoping to have the salad greens and garlic bread donated...but we'll keep you informed on this.

5) We are asking members to bring a dessert or fresh fruit that evening, we have a sign-up sheet for this purpose.

6) Is there a window somewhere that needs a poster?  We have them available, ask Betty 355-4195.

7)  Do you know about a Mystery or some Pacifica History that we could use in our Trivia Quiz?  Contact frank 738-9400 or Jerry 738-2332.

8)  Can you make a History Card, they will be displayed on the tables and sold.

Please talk it up to everyone you know.  There have been a number of fundraisers in Pacifica lately but we need to have people understand this is for the benefit of all Pacificans who would like to have local museums (Little Brown Church and Ocean Shore Railway Car #1409) in Pacifica for preserving the history and sharing it with future generations.

Thank you for your help and support...KEEP IT GOING, PLEASE!

Hi All!

Just a quick reminder:

There will be an important fund raising meeting tonight at the Pacifica Community Center at 6:30 pm.

We hope everyone can make this meeting as we are finalizing the preparations for the up and coming fundraiser "History Mystery Night" Sat. May 6. This should be a fun evening for all, but there is still much work to be done!

We need help with the following:

1)    Ticket sales. We are hoping you all can attend and entice your friends as            well. Ticket are $10 for adults $5 for children.

2)    Auction items. If you have something to donate don't hesitate! Just call us or bring it to the meeting. If you know of a local business who might like to donate an item go ahead and ask them, it can't hurt and you might get a great item for us to auction off!

3) Can you donate a basket filled with goodies  for the auction? A full basket or single items to help fill one would be great.

Call with questions, ideas, and your generous offers of help.

Betty 355-4195
Kathleen 355-5462
June 355-1748
Melinda 359-1495

Thank you!

Hi Scott, I have been traveling and am off again. Here is a photo showing
the end of sister car 1406. It is identical in every detail to 1409. The
photo is from a private collection and can't be copied for publication or
given to others. It may help in your research. I will try to find a photo
for your records. Best regards, John Schmale

Subject: (OCEANSHORERAILROAD.COM) ***UPDATE SUMMER 2006***
srl1409
Send Email Send Email

Greetings,

Summer 2006 is upon us and we have many up and coming events to put on our calendars.

First work party of 2006.
This next weekend, June 17th, 9:00 to 3:30
or so, we will be unveiling our relic and resuming work to restore this famous railroad car. Our local TV Channel 26 will have a film crew on site getting footage for the new show Pacific Footprints. This new show documents Pacific and local history and it is doing a segment on the Ocean Shore Railroad. Come to work and maybe be a TV star!!

First meeting for the Summer 2006 season.
Meeting June 21st at the Pacifica Community Center. 6:30pm. Please take an hour of your time to make it to this meeting. We will be covering some important topics and we need your help and input.

Update
Through out the winter our committee has been on task fund-raising. The
Pacifica Historical Societys' spaghetti feed was a huge success and raised alot of money to help purchase some of our much needed materials.

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO WORKED SO HARD, AND TO ALL WHO ATTENDED!!! What fun!

We would also like to thank local businesses and contributors who have donated to the Historical Society and this project.

One More Fundraiser...FIREWORKS!!!
The OSRR group has been lucky enough to get a fireworks booth this year. We will be sharing our booth with the Pacifica 4H group. They will be sharing the work and profits with us. We look forward to working with them! This fundraiser should help us reach our goal for the year.

We will be needing volunteer workers to sell fireworks the week before the 4th and the 4th of July itself.

No previous work experience necessary. To apply, Call Melinda or Scott to reserve your 3 hour work block, or more if you would like. Don't be shy, we want you to call!

Day (650)355-6325
Cell (anytime)
(650)400-4075
Evening (650) 359-1495

The Train Car
This is also a call to all who would like to participate or volunteer in any aspect of your interest. Contact us if you would actually like to work on the car at the on-site work parties that will be held all summer. This is an exiting and unique project and we welcome your participation. If you have not visited our web site you really should, Check it out...And spread the word...

We are in need of carpenters, welders, and craftsmen who can help in some specialized areas. Currently our scope is the rebuilding of the main under carriage and floor. The inside floor frame is in remarkably good shape although the exterior beams were completely rotten. These will be replaced and re-bolted together. During that time rafters and framing can be duplicated and readied for assembly. Most of the roof structure is in good shape as it is being held by bracing.

Hi Mike,
How's every thing?
We haven't heard from you for a while.
Lets see...
We have cleaned and treated and primed most of the steel in the undercarriage.
Today i delivered some lvl beams for the floor and we are going ahead on ordering 44 foot long lvl beams for the sill beams. Recently i ran across over 100 feet of sp track rails hidden in the city for our taking free, all we need is a Crane and flat bed truck.
The last couple of meetings have seen only the same 4-5 people, focusing on fund raising. Our grant to Terra nova high school was declined so we'll resubmit in the fall.
The fire works booth was so much work that it kind of burned out my wife and i.
We did do sales of all most 20K but we have to pay fees and are slitting 50/50 with the 4-H club. So we figure we got about 4K+ for our selves. The last fund raising dinner night got us almost 6K and was a packed house @ the Moose Lodge, alot of fun and prizes.
  I do have a request...
Please give "kitty4manning", on the yahoo group site, management status as she will be  interfacing with the site soon.
A really neat thing John Smally and i did was to get interviewed on TV about the rail car and the OSRR. It will air soon on local TV footprints of pacifica. It was a really good interview and John and I talked alot about the car.
well drop me a line and tell me where you are and what you've been up to...
See Ya...
Scott

Hi Scott,

Do you think it would be feasible to make a run to Sebastopol for the remaining sections of the longitudinal tension bars just before picking up the rails, or would the truck for the rails be too big a rig for that?

Scott and Linda,

Has there been any representation by the historical
group or the rail car group with the Peeble's
corportation? I've met Don Peebles twice now and will
again on the 20th. I'm wondering if there is a
particular message that can be delivered to him and
what if anything I can do to help convey it.

Is there an interest in setting aside land for the
railcar? Even funding it's completion?

Hello fearless group!

It's time to get some more work done!
We have a few up and coming dates to note.

Work Party: Sat. Aug 12, 9am to afternoon...
Lots of work to do! We will be painting more steel, beginning some wood work and more. Let's all bring something to share for a pot luck style lunch.

Meeting: Wed. Aug 16 6:30 pm community center
We will go over our account balance and which way to spend some of our money. We need to decide on purchasing our timber. Solid, full length timbers will be very expensive but more authentic to our project. The cheaper glue lams won't be an exact match, but will leave us some money to work with.

Work Party: Sat. Aug 19, 9am to afternoon...
More work to be done. Mr Pebbles may come to visit our work party as he may be interested in funding our project.

Fund Raiser: Garage Sale!
Sat., Aug. 26, 9am to 2pm 580 Crespi Dr, Units L & M
We need volunteers and donations. Call (650)355-6325.

Volunteers are welcome again this Sunday Nov 12th
to continue fabricating the floor structure of Car 1409

Last time our crew successfully laid in place 44 foot long beams. These had been milled to accept the steel "I" beams that span the length.
Holes have been located and drilled for the bolts that tie together the floor.
Marty Rivette supplied the drills and Mike Grizzle the generator for power.
John Merria and his son recovered the steel truss rods that had been left in Sebastopol. Now these can be welded to bars they had been cut from during prep for transportation of the car 2 years ago. All mount brackets are reconditioned, primed and are ready to install.
Maybe by the end of the year we will have reconditioned the entire floor structure.
This marks the beginning of the third phase to replace wall framing. Every part of the rebuilding has duplicated exactly original construction, mainly due to drawings and notes detailed by Dave King and Jerry Crow. Our progress can be credited to all of our volunteers who have shown dedication, perseverance, and a willingness to take on the seemingly impossible. Our contributors have given us over $15,400 in the last year and fundraising continues.
Our staff extends its Gratitude and Thanks to all of you,
 for your interest and support!!!
