For this reason, 90 days is the number that prospective PERS retirees are told
to plan ways to hold on till the initial payment arrives. If for some reason
PERS takes longer than the target of 62 days, when you *are* paid the initial
payment takes care of all the delayed payments. (One example, I arranged to take
a short term loan to make my house payments, but paid it off in full when I got
my initial benefit payment.)

monthly benefit amount either up or down.

I'm going to have to search out the rule that describes the payment. It was my
understanding that theyr had 92 days from the application date or 62 days from
the effective retirement date, whichever came sooner.

In any case, you should get your benefit before the end of January.

Debbie,

I retired on July 1st of this year, received my first check on the 20th of
August and then another on September 1st. The first one will come via the mail,
even if you have requested direct deposit. You should receive your "Notice of
Entitlement" a few days before your check arrives.

Congrats!!

Rick

The 90 day figure is how long PERS has *by law* to make the initial payment. For

your initial payments start coming regularly, PERS will review your account
sometime in the next year and this *may* result in an adjustment of your monthly
benefit amount either up or down.

Congratulations on your retirement. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I have

Congratulations on achieving this major milestone in life. Richly deserved.

Second, generally speaking PERS has 62 days from your actual retirement to send
you or deposit your first check. Depending on when it is processed, it will be
retroactive to the date of retirement, but it may follow quickly with another

As a former Dept of Revenue employee who worked in filing enforcement I'm
delighted that they waited for the amnesty period to end. This gave Sizemore
every chance to come clean. He didn't. Now he is being charged. This extends my
Thanksgiving holiday! It is also good for PERS, though there will be plenty of
others attacking the retirement plan of public workers.

The deposit will most likely come Jan 4, 2010. It will *for sure* happen, be
credited and count for tax purposes in 2010. As an 'experienced' PERS direct

Sometimes I can see the deposit in my on-line banking information before the

Thank YOU for the suggestion. It is pleasure to be able to meet readers' and
posters' need for information. If it is possible, I will do it. If others have
special requests, feel free to ask. I will quickly let you know whether it is
possible and how quickly you can expect it. If not, I will try to determine
why.

Most people prefer access this way. There is no way I know to access the link
from this site via email. You can, however, come to the web site, download the
link and store it so you can seek your own daily email update of PERS news.

Good suggestion Marc. I have added the link to the Document Library discussion
page. http://oregonpers.info/discussions.html

I sense we are all trying to provide a simple one stop service to PERS news and
information. There are now a number of choices available.

If there is no links section to the left what must I do to get it to show? I am
reading this message from my e-mail.

Thanks to Gary for suggesting it. I'm really miffed I didn't think of this
first. Anyone who wants the search to keep for themselves can simply copy it and
ask Google to send them a once-a-day email with the same sources.

Thank you, Mr. Fearless for making the link. For me personally, I think this

all of the links I am interested in. Happy Thanksgiving to you and all of the

Google is a heavy hammer for a more focused search, but for a general purpose
engine its bots crawl so many web sites that anything with PERS in the subject
or title will be picked up. If you don't put "PERS" (all caps and in quotes) in

Yes the link is working and the results are predictable. I must confess that on
the day we pause to give thanks, this "news" isn't what I want to read.

To all of you that have dedicated your working life to public service, I say
well done and may your years of well earned retirement be long and full of joy.

As requested, I have created a link that will poll Google for Oregon PERS news.
As I understand it, the news will be regenerated each time a user clicks on the
link. It is located in the "Links" section to the left and is about 3rd down
from the top. Please try it out and see whether it meets your needs. Just

That IS funny. Alas, I don't have that kind of power, although it is tempting
to use on some of the more obnoxious people I encounter on the internets.

PERS questions and issue discussion offers enough real substance that empty
noise is not required. As said before, there are other places where the
inflammatory posters can express themselves. Thanks again for creating this site
and for the leadership.

Yes, Comcast (for now). I had to laugh. Here I was shooting off my mouth about
getting kicked off the site and all of a sudden the message popped up about
being terminated.
I thought, gee that was quick. Marc is really on top of things. :-)
