The Portland Western is one of the leading shortlines in the western USA, serving Oregon's Willamette Valley and coast on former SP and BN (SP&S) branch lines. Portland Western also hosts and operates TriMet's Westside Express Service (WES). This group is a place to ask questions about the PNWR, ask questions about the WES, post sightings or railfan adventures or discuss what's happening on the "little friendly."

The photo at right shows the eastbound Toledo Hauler crossing the Mary's River in the foothills of the Oregon Coast Range a few miles west of Philomath, Oregon.
