During much of the Twentieth Century, Peoria was an important gateway for the nation's railroads. In 1960, 15 railroads served metro Peoria - ATSF, CBQ, CIM, CNW, RI, GMO, IC, ITC, MSTL, NKP, PE, PRR, PPU, PT and TPW. Despite the many mergers that have since occurred, eleven railroads still "Play in Peoria" - BNSF, CN, CIRY, IMRR, IAIS, KJRY, NS, PIRY, TPW, TZPR and UP. This list is for current and historical discussion of railroads in the Peoria area including Pekin, East Peoria and surrounding suburbs. Modeling discussion is welcome. Please avoid profanity and personal attacks.
Photo at right shows Iowa Interstate's Bureau Switcher working its way past the old Rock Island Chillicothe depot on July 18, 2008. The short train had left Bureau Jct. with 14 cars, but some were probably set out at Henry. Some sand hoppers were spotted at Galena Road Gravel shortly before this photo was taken. Photo by David P.
