During much of the Twentieth Century, Peoria was an important gateway for the nation's railroads. In 1960, 15 railroads served metro Peoria - ATSF, CBQ, CIM, CNW, RI, GMO, IC, ITC, MSTL, NKP, PE, PRR, PPU, PT and TPW. Despite the many mergers that have since occurred, eleven railroads still "Play in Peoria" - BNSF, CN, CIRY, IMRR, IAIS, KJRY, NS, PIRY, TPW, TZPR and UP. This list is for current and historical discussion of railroads in the Peoria area including Pekin, East Peoria and surrounding suburbs. Modeling discussion is welcome. Please avoid profanity and personal attacks.
At right, BNSF Railway X-LVWPEI 05A (Empty Grain, Longview, Washington to Peoria, Illinois) has just come to a stop short of the ADM Grain Co. entrance road on an unusually warm early afternoon of November 7, 2009. The train, made up mostly of ADM-owned equipment, had 101 cars, and is enroute to ADM Corn Processing in Decatur. Canadian National will handle it the final leg. (David P. Jordan Photo).
