Thanks John. I'll have to investigate the whereabouts of some Con Cor cars now.
That red and silver looks really sharp. If only Kato..........

Bob,

If you are not counting roof handrails, then the plans are identical.

Your consists looks remarkably similar to my 1954 era Golden State.
I have no red top cars in mine.
I used John Grey brass car sides to build RI baggage 852.
I have a ConCor SP diner which I use for the coach passengers.
I used Brass Car Sides to build RI & SP 4-4-2's before the InterMtn cars came
out.
The Walthers SP 10-6 fits very well between them.

Take pictures when you get your consist done.

John and all,

Thank you for your responses. your help is appreciated. I noticed the two
different pullman plan numbers. Without being called a rivet counter does one
plan fit the modeled 4-4-2's better than the other?

My thoughts on a GS are slightly different, primarily because I have bought the
cars already, except for the 4-4-2, but all have not been repainted yet.

LL E7A
LL E7B
LL E8A in consist if needed
Arnold RPO
Kato Baggage
Atlas/Riv Baggage Dorm RI 820
Kato smooth side coach for SP
Atlas/Riv coach Waterloo
Atlas/Riv coach Hawthorne
Kato Diner decalled for Ocotilla
Intermtn/Centralia 4-4-2
Kato 6-6-4
Kato 6-6-4
Kato 10-6 SP fluted sides. (I have a smooth side UP 10-6 I could repaint)
Atlas/Riv Golden Vista (red top)or Atlas Riv Golden Divan (silver top)

As I am attempting a Rocky Mtn Rocket also I can add Kato Diner Centennial to
the consist. I had the AB6 underway but decided to rip the light off the top
when I found better information, but that is another story.

Again thank you for your help,

After further online research, it looks like 456 was salvaged for parts at
Chrome Crankshaft:

Anyone know about the RS2s?

It's pretty close. Intermountain is one shade lighter.

I had previously painted the Atlas/RR corrugated baggage-dorm, coach and
observation cars with Testor's Red and they perfectly matched the ConCor cars.

I read that the GS Red was abandoned because it was fading to what someone
called salmon.

Golden Fleece was originally Pullman 217 blt 1940 plan 4069D) for the Arizona
Limited. G. Sunset was Pullman 207, G. Desert was Pullman 206 and G. Hour was
Pullman 208, all blt 1942 (4069H) for Golden State Limited. All four were
originally western two-tone grey.

They were all sold to the Rock Island in 1947 and repainted Daylight Red over
silver for the streamlined Golden State that premiered Jan. 4, 1948. That scheme
lasted until they were repainted all silver in 1953-1954.

The models are extremely faithful to prototype with one exception. The cars had
full-width diaphragms while the models have door-width diaphragms.

You could use them (along with the 6-6-4 sleepers) to replace the sleepers in
the ConCor series of cars. Drop the dome and it looks pretty nice.

I took the shell off of Life-Like E7A, notched the frame and got a powered E7B
so I could run E7A-E7B-E7B with two powered units.

Greetings,

I was researching the Alco RS2s and RS3 locomotives that were repowered by EMD
and am curious if anyone knows if they lasted past the shutdown in 1980? It
looks like three of these repowerings lasted up to 1980:
RS2 451
RS2 454
RS3 456

These were sold to Chrome Crankshaft shortly after the Rock came to an end, but
I can't find any information if they lasted longer than that or not. I would be
interested if they were sold to another property and were used for more service
after life on the Rock Island. Can anyone shed some light on this subject?

Thanks for any help you can provide!

I recently added my 2 cents about "needed" gondola ends at the STMFC group. We need someone like Stan Rydarowicz or another resin casting company to produce these along with flipped dreadnaught ends and Pullman Standard gon ends.

The Rio Grande did not have war emergency composite 52ft gons, but
they did have 46ft composite drop-bottom GS gons built by PSC with
their proprietary pressed steel ends ends. The old MDC 40ft gon has
similar ends.

Can anyone point to some 1930s-era photographs of the 40700-46199
series Fowler clones built for the CRI&P/RI from 1913 to 1915?

I'm looking for cars later in life than those shown on the
Westerfield 6400 model pages.

d_rdw_m_stl_69715.htm>

Given the existence of at least some of these cars into the 1940s...
is there any evidence of rebuilding with steel doors and/or AB brakes?

Yahoo!Groups message Search is broken... so I'm not sure if this has
been discussed previously. I've spent some time chasing links from
the RITS web site... as well as some library sites, but without any luck.

I would appreciate any ideas on where to look...

That makes sense, Jim.  After re-reading the article in August 2001 RMC, I realized the disagreement between the text on p. 76 and the list on p. 72.  Next rabbit trail--go find that old (from 1960 or so) plastic gondola in my junk box.  Thanks,

Les Brandt

The Rio Grande did not have war emergency composite 52ft gons, but
they did have 46ft composite drop-bottom GS gons built by PSC with
their proprietary pressed steel ends ends. The old MDC 40ft gon has
similar ends.

What era are you referring to by "original?" There are a few from the '70s in
this album:

Taken by the late Rich Wilson of Muscatine. Photos from earlier eras are
relatively rare but as mentioned there were some in the magazine issues
referenced above. What kind of information are you looking for? Post some
questions and we'll do our best to answer them.

There were two issues of REMEMBER THE ROCK a few years ago that covered the football train issue.

Phil Weibler will, no doubt, post the exact references.

Lower tracks are former NP heading to Mississippi St. and eventually Northtown Yard in Minneapolis. The upper tracks are former GN.

I presume that the tracks on the left lead to the hidden staging yard underneath the layout… J
