Description

Welcome railfans!

NS coverage includes the H-Line (Hagerstown District) out of Vardo Yard south to Riverton Junct (Front Royal) and the B-Line east from Riverton to Manassas, Virginia. Additional NS coverage includes the Lurgan Branch from Hagerstown, Maryland north to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

Shenandoah Junction, West Virginia is the point where the NS H-Line crosses over the CSX Cumberland Subdivision - east-west mainline between Brunswick and Cumberland, both with active yard operations.

Additional CSX coverage includes the historic B&O OML from Point of Rocks to Baltimore; Metropolitan SUB (Point of Rocks to the Wye at Hyattsville where it connects with the Capital SUB (to Baltimore) and Alexandria extension to the RF&P SUB); Shenandoah SUB (Harpers Ferry to Winchester); Hanover SUB (Hagerstown to Hanover); and the Lurgan SUB (Cherry Run through Hagerstown to Chambersburg).

Short-lines include the Maryland Midland and Winchester & Western. Passenger rails include MARC commuter trains and Amtrak Capital Limited.

The 4-state area has a plethora of railroad history coupled with a good mix of present-day action. Baltimore, Richmond, Roanoke, Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, Altoona, & Horseshoe Curve are all within a reasonable drive!

Here you'll find trackside stories & sightings; notification of approaching traffic; 'OS' reports; virtual rail-fanning tours (pictures and video); local railroad news and events; as well as, files & links to railroad information. News, photos, and observations from neighboring and tributary rails in the four-state area welcome.
