Subject: ethernet cable/accessories?

Hey folks,

I was wondering if there are any techies out there that could help
me. I wanted to run some cat5/6 cable through the house, and I know I can
get 1000ft of cat5 from ~$55+, but I'm trying to cut down costs right now.

So I'm wondering if anyone could lend me the tools to do this? or better
yet, maybe someone who has excess cabling and ends around could whip me up a
200-300 ft long section of cat5 and sell it to me at a reasonable price?
(Or if you know of good local retaillers?)
(Unlike the prices I find online which I tend to find a little expensive..)

Thanks in advance!
tata,
	 -Ajay

(Hm, just looked more closely and noticed the cat5 i saw says unshielded,
that might be too cheap quality for what I want to do..?)

The Santa Clara Freecycle group changed over to this new format/site. I
don't like it at all.

Are all the groups going to have to switch over to? I hope not.

Anyone know more about this?

Thanks,
Carol in Cupetino

This website was created to discuss the future of Freecycle, and this
subject is written about frequently on:

I, too, don't like it! I haven't received a single email from that group
since it switched. I tested it by posting one myself and I got my ad, but
nothing else. I actually just sent an email to the freecycle administration to
ask if that group still exists, but all I get back are canned messages (same
message to my follow up inquiries, done exactly as they asked). :( Very bad
customer service!

I can't get it to work, either. Looks like the options now are
craigslist.org and www.freemesa.org.

I went to the Freecycle.org site and put in Santa Clara. There are 2
ADMINS one of which says:
Information Regarding the Old Group and Your "Old Membership"
If you receive an email stating that you've been removed from the "old"
yahoo group, please disregard it. We will be removing memberships from
the "OLD" group that have successfully signed up here at the NEW
website. This is just an FYI so you'll be aware and know to disregard
the email from Yahoo.
Your Moderator Team

THE OTHER ONE SAYS

NOTICE: Default email delivery setting is "none" If you have signed up
and didn't change this to "all" then go to:
http://my.freecycle.org/home/groups and use the drop down menu to
change your email delivery settings.
Maybe your settings aren't correct?

Hope this helps.

Unfortunately, I did all the things they suggest or request and still no
emails, which left me wondering if there is actually an existing group or if
people bailed due to the difficulty of navigating this group. I sent emails to
the admin of freecycle asking, but only get back canned responses, same
response no matter how you respond.

Ajay,

Check with companies that demolish buildings. They may be recovering older
ethernet cables.

Another idea:

Check with Weird Stuff in Sunnyvale. They may have salvaged cables.

Their number is 1-408-743-5650 .

You have to go to the web site and turn on the message receipt option, but then
you can still post from your email account right to the santaclarafreecycle
address - you don't need to post from the new site or use it to read messages.
(I hate it too.)

The dine-in only breakfast includes two pancakes, two eggs, two links

Customers on Tuesday also get a coupon booklet that includes offers
for additional free menu items with purchases. Also, Denny's customers
can "Slam It Up" by adding any two additional items for 99 cents each.

"The Grand Slam has always been a Denny's favorite," said Nelson

I have not yet checked if these schools sell used books but has anyone recently
taken "Principles of Real Estate: course through West Valley or Mission
College?  If you did and have the text book, even if it's an edition older, I
would love to borrow or buy it used from you.  If you know any online versions
that would be even better.  The specific book title and author is this (public
library have the same title but by different author which I don't think would
work):  Course Text: CaliforniaReal Estate Principles 12th Edition. Author: Walt

all the other local freecycle sites are still using the old format -
san jose, los gatos, saratoga, palo alto, etc. you may consider
joining these groups.

to enable emails, go to the 'my groups' tab, and activate emails using
the drop down menu 'please select action from list' by selecting
'receive individual emails' - the only choice since the daily digest
option is not available/activated yet for this beta site
(unfortunately, since i prefer to receive the digest).

the admin's 'how to use the new site' states: "NOTICE: Default email
delivery setting is "none" If you have signed up and didn't change
this to "all" then go to: http://my.freecycle.org/home/groups and use
the drop down menu to change your email delivery settings."

posting messages OFFER/TAKEN & WANTED/RECIEVED is very easy on this
site, much easier than the former site, albeit different, as well as
monitoring your own personal posts via the 'my posts' tab. i hope
with a little patience, we will find this venue better as freecycle
works out the kinks.

i went thru and clicked on all the tabs & drop down menus to see what
option there are - i think it took me about 10-min to figure out the
new site. when i first joined the yahoo groups/freecycle - it took
about twice that amount of time.

currently there are little over 500 active members, as opposed to the
over 3000 members using the original site.

& remember, the group moderators are volunteers, not customer service
agents.

San Jose and Sunnyvale are continuing to work just fine. I hope they don't

Check out European sleep works in Berkeley. TOTALLY worth the drive. A
mattress and platform that are totally customizable to you! Top of the line
Queen cost us about $2250 I think, but Sealy/Serta was going to be the same.

Hi Specific recommendation on the store, but please remember to bargain with the
sales people. A few years back when I was purchasing my cal-king, I went to the
stores that are the ones that advertise on most radio stations, and does free
same day delivery if purchased before 2pm...

Anyways, the out-the-door price I got was somewhere around half of the original
price they quoted me. So there's a big range you can bargain with. They still
gave me the free delivery, free frame, and 2 free pillows.

Oh, also, just as an FYI - I got the pillow-top kind, and the mattress is pretty
deep. This makes it hard to find fitted sheets, especially since cal-king is
harder to find online.

-Jimmy

Hello Cathy:

This is not exactly what you are asking but here is what I did recently:

I had the basic ATT plan for a while to get my DSL service. I never
used the phone but with taxes I had to pay almost $13!

When ATT decoupled DSLand phone services, I dropped the phone service.
Subscribed to Skype's unlimited call service. Got even a local phone
number from Skype.

I think I am paying $2.8 /mo. for umlimited calls, and $2.5/mo. for
the telephone number.

Quality of the calls is sometimes not that great.

I do do internatonal calls, but that is a seperate plan.

Speaking of International calls, check out http://www.tuitalk.com They
let you call certain International destinations free of charge. 10
minutes/day limit, you have to wqatch a small add.

I forgot to mention, with one fo the features (I fprgot which), you
get a voice mail also. You can also do a conference call with upto 5
people I believe. Participants can be ordinary telephones or Skyep
users.

I should also mention that there is a company that sells a small
device that lets you connect a regular telephon set to it. Then you
can make unlimited calls for a year for around $20. Here is the URL:

No, you do not pay anything to ATT for phone service. You need an
internet connection--which may be through ATT, Comcast, whatever.

As I just wrote in response to Jocelyn, check out the following as well:

Linda,

You'll need to ask some questions to assess his experience in this
particular area, but it's definitely worth a phone call after you take a
look at this: http://www.smilegarden.com/aboutus.html

replacement

Hi everyone
My husband has a vertical root fracture on one of his teeth. His
dentist referred us to an endodontist who said that it is unlikely
the tooth could be saved. The endodontist recommended a bone graft
and dental implant and scheduled an appointment. We then got a call
canceling the endodist appointment becuase our general dentist said
he could do the procedure. We are now in an awkward situation.

We can understand the endodontist being reluctant to argue with the
general dentist who referred us but we think this is a procedure that
our general dentist rarely does. We want to go to someone who is
experienced in this procedure since we have learned the painful
lesson of having a general dentist do the work of a specilaist. The
endontist said the fracture was the result of a poorly executed root
canal which (unknown to the endodontist) had been done by a different
general dentist several years ago.

As you can imagine this has been a very painful, upsetting and
expensive experience and we are now in the awkward position of not
wanting to ask our general dentist for another referral.

We really want to have the implant done by a dentist with lots of
experience. Can someone recommend a dentist who specializes in this
kind of stuff? We live in the Cambrian area (95124) but will drive
where necessary.

Thanks so much - I consulted the dental referal database but it
doesn't have many listings yet.

Linda

Very experienced, very nice, worked with me when my insurance wouldn't cover a
procedure.  Did an awesome reimplantation of a tooth.  He also has a partner
there and my mother raves about him as well.  His name is Robert Chimenti,
D.D.S, but Shirani is very skilled.  Best of luck!

excuse me - accidentally hit send before typing my message

i am not sure if this is appropriate to post to the group - so please
excuse me if i am overstepping the ground rules.

i just recently started marketing services that will help with just
this type of issue - this is a service that i have personally used
since 1997. in brief the gist of the plan is unlimited legal
consultation via phone with one of the top rated firms in california
that specializes in all 26 areas of the law, including traffic law.
if you sign up for this service (via my website below). the are
other coverages as well that i am happy to go into if you are
interested. this plan also is portable and will cover you in any of
the US states & canada.

depending on which plan you choose it will cost you $15 or $25; the
plan is month to month, so if you don't like it, you may cancel at
any time. as soon as you join, you may consult with a lawyer - you
will call in & describe the issueto create a case file. you will
receive a call back from a lawyer with parker stanbury specialing in
traffic law who will tell you exactly what you need to do.

feel free to contact me should have any questions.

Hello Folks:

I keep hearing about a plant arugula. Apperantly makes excellent
salads. I am enclosing varients of its name down below.

We have a lot of ethnic stores around here--indian, hinese, korean.
They may carry it too, but they usually have names in their respective
languages.

Thanks!

Arugula

Arugula is an aromatic, peppery salad green. It is also known as
roquette, rocket, rugula and rucola, and is very popular in Italian
cuisine. It grows wild in Asia and all over the entire Mediterranean
--- and has been known to be cultivated and enjoyed in places as
exotic as the north of Sudan.

In Roman times arugula was grown for both its leaves and the seed. The
seed was used for flavoring oils.

Arugula has uses beyond salad: it can be sauteed or cooked in many
other ways. Don't forget to try arugula sprouts if you get a chance.
