Elevator Speech   Message List

Have you ever had anyone ask you what kind of work you do and you had no powerful and compelling introduction to generate interest or curiosity at-the-ready to respond with?

The next time you're on the elevator (or anywhere else, for that matter) and someone asks you what kind of business you're in - respond to them with a twelve second Elevator Speech by remembering these two "stem sentences" and filling in the blanks. The "stem sentences" are:

Do You Know How...

(Yes)

Well, What I Do Is...

For example, you might say:

"Do you know how many people are concerned about not having enough money in this economy to retire and enjoy the same lifestyle as they have today?"

(They say yes...)

"Well, what I do is show these folks how they can work part time out of their homes and create a lifetime residual income that will allow them to retire with more money and peace of mind."

That's the Elevator Speech!

Now to take this a step further, if they respond with, "Oh... that's nice..." - then you know that you haven't used an Elevator Speech that resonates with them.

Which is why you need to have several 'concepts' in your hip-pocket.

But also, one of the very best ways to make certain that you use an Elevator Speech that does resonate with them is - simply let them do the talking first!

If they're the first to ask you what you do... simply defer - and ask them, "What is it that you do?"

As they talk, listen intently for clues that tell you what they are interested in; family - finances - job satisfaction (or DIS-satisfaction!).

Then as they finally ask you again (and they will... be patient!) what it is that you do, you can now hone in on THEIR target... using the 2 stem sentences:

Do You Know How...

(Yes)

Well, What I Do Is...

"...although it's really tough as a small business owner to get that momentum going and build a loyal following. But hey - enough about me, what is it that you do?"

"Do you know how small businesses are needing ways to stay in touch with their clients and prospects?"

(They say yes...)

"Well, what I do is create a way to help those businesses stay in contact and build relationships with their customers that will generate loyalty and growth.

Short and sweet - but with enough of a hook to get them to respond, "Wow - that sounds right up my alley... now how exactly do you do that?"
