Soay sheep are self-shedding (no shearing required), have naturally short tails that do not require docking, and are thought to be the oldest domestic breed of sheep in the world... many of the Northern Short Tailed breeds of sheep (Shetland, Icelandic, etc) are thought to be descended from Soay sheep. This ancient breed is naturally hardy and alert, with their natural instincts and intelligence retained due to the fact that they were marooned for millenia on Soay and Hirta of the St Kilda Islands off the coast of Scotland.
