HELLO FROM YOUR EDITMASTER
Some of you have waited years for me to say this. Well, this monthly
edition is very short. I can squarely rest the blame on our economy
and the fact that many of our breathren have been sitting on a fence
for a long time and only collecting splinters. The focus now seems
for ways to reach out and network with fellow recruiters, discover
sources for new accounts, and of course, showcase any tools that can
seriously leverage your time and resources.
However, don't despair, in the last 45 days I've had time to
review job/resume portal sites and still offer some commentary.
It is often said that to best determine one's friends, all you
have to do is be backed into a corner and find out who comes to your
rescue or at least offers you a way out that is better than what you
have.

REVIEWS
During my one day review at USJobBoard.com, I randomly emailed back
to myself 50 resumes. Of the 50 tested for a valid email address,
only one was undeliverable. Further testing was conducted by
contacting ten phone numbers provided on ten different resumes. Of
the ten, only two had numbers that been either disconnected or no
longer in service. The only other observation was that many resumes
that identified a posted date of X were actually six months or more
older than the date reflected on their database. This was easily
discerned by the cover letter date on many profiles that also
displayed the resume. The cover letter date and the posted date
differed considerably. Though their site boasts that 7000+ resumes
were posted in the last 7 days since my review, I could not see those
numbers reflected in actual new resumes (by posted date) reflected in
a variety of searches. However, I was informed during my initial
review that their company had recently acquired PassportAccess (note
my September 2001 review).

In my two-week review of FlipDog.com since its acquisition by TMP,
big brother to Monster.com, it was apparent that little had changed.
Though my initial review earlier this year was quite good, I had
expected to find newer bells and whistles now that they were
apparently flush with new cash. However, the only noticeable change
was that more resumes had been added to their web-based search
product. In talking with their member services rep who informed me
that over 4000 new resumes were posted daily into their in-house
database, I again could not ascertain where that number was derived
from based on my results. The only other observation was that
candidates submitting their resumes in response to my ads were
allowed to send their resume for each job posting. Hence, I received
the same resume at least 5-7 times. This has got to make you wonder
how either multi-versatile these professionals are or the market is
so tough that people will throw themselves at anything.

SOFTWARE
This month I revisited previously reviewed software to illustrate how
they can be used to help you either find and apply to a job or find a
job and match it to a potential account manager or recruiter who may
entertain some assistance. Both products are part of the Infogist
family of meta-searchers: Career infoFinder and Resume infoFinder
Platinum.
