Hi Col,
Don't bother with the DIY centres mate I'll drop you round some Elmbridge Green
paint which is what we used to use just for that borough, that's quite a near
match if I remember correctly, leave it with me Mr F and you might find a treat
on your doorstep when you arrive home from the watering hole of a Friday
afternoon!! ;-)
Pete.

Hi Pete.
Im pleased with the Rural open, it actually had survived its years of
dereliction better than it looked.
Its not perfect, the dink in the canopy is still visible so the cracked
refractor would do fine for it.
I've still got to prime and paint the bracket and finial yet too, would like to
match its old Surrey green colour, its quite a bit darker than the present day
Surrey Woodpecker green but not as dark as the present day West Sussex green,
I'll take the piece of bracket down to Homebase or Bodge it Quick (B&Q) and see
what hand paint they've got close to it.
To be honest I don't reckon even Jim could fix Mickey's airfield one mate, that
does look too far gone, proper mullered.
Cheers
Colin F.

Hi Col,
As in the words of our Oracle B.B.C (Big Bob Cookson) - O.M.G!!! I didn't think
it was possible, that little lantern was in a right mess! I can't believe how
well that's come out mate, hats of to you sir!
Maybe we could see how you'd get on with that old airfield number Mikey found
recently, I bet the Tangmere one has long gone a!?
I've still got that cracked glass refractor if that's one your on about mate,
your welcome to that. And I think Bob may possibly have a spare if you want a
better one.
Cheers,
Pete.

Hi Pete.
The old BTH Rural open from Lowfield Heath has had a fair bit of work
done to it in the last couple of days and has produced light for the
first time today since around 1974/5 when the village was demolished and
the Eleco GR151's were installed, I'm afraid I do remember it when it
was working in the wild, getting an old git now. I've got two
generations of streetlighting from Lowfield Heath now the present day
sapphire 2's have replaced most of the GR151's all by two making them
the third generation streetlights.
I've uploaded some pics on the Colin F's collection folder, despite the
hard life its had facing the elements on a bent bracket and years of
dereliction its come pretty good with a lot of the original metalwork
still useable after giving it a going over with the wire brush
attachments in a drill, treating the rust and blowing over with Halfords
aluminium paint for the canopy and white primer and appliance white for
internal metalwork. Even the original piece of twin and earth was
re-useable.
Bits replaced were broken lampholder, 3x corroded refractor ring hooks
(springs, washers e.t.c. all good) and one very corroded lamp wattage
focus height adjuster. I found a vintage 100w GLS lamp made by Endura
to use in it

It still has a bit of a dink in the rim, I straightened it a bit but the
casting was in danger of breaking so didn't want to risk dollying it
anymore.
All it needs now is a match for the old pre 1974 green paint on the
bracket and finial, a 20mm steel conduit through box for the connection
to a flex and a refractor ring if you still have that bit of glass ware
for sale Pete.
Even got a brand new key-clamp wall fixing on a dumpster dive in a
builders skip to fix the lot to the wall, Owz Zat.
I told you it would live again Pete, Thanks for getting it down for me
mate, you're a star.
Is it quite a rare lantern having a side entry option too (which is
blanked off with a circular plug with "red lead this joint" on it)
I also wonder how old it is.
Anyway that's another nice local oldie well underway for the collection
Cheers
Colin F.
