Looking back on all those years now, what an awful lack of vision for the
future. Of course, by 1966 the interstate highway system was booming, and Route
80 was quickly approaching the southern tip of Sussex County. Gas was also only
25 cents a gallon. I guess the politicians and others saw no need for a train,
passenger or freight, with a "super highway" coming so close to the county.
Sigh. So now a "new" rail line is being planned for the old Lackawanna Cutoff,
with a new station to be built, ironically, not too far the old one in Andover.
I like the feeling of "yesteryear" when I am on the trail between Waterloo and
Newton, which I hike often. I saw a bear yesterday just north of Andover. That
was cool! (I didn't bother him!)

It's a turn of phrase designed to emphasize the last run. Some folks
still believe the big Railroadian trip on the Saturday was the last run
to Branchville.
